I am from New England and am used to really good seafood. I now live in the south and it is difficult to get good fresh seafood. I absolutely love steamed clams and I wanted to go to Cape May. Do you think I will be happy with the food there. I like mussels too but I read that they were in a funky tomato sauce . I don't want to be disappointed with the food. I just like good steamed clams and mussels with lots of butter. That is mainly what I'm going for. Any input would be appreciated.

Originally from Long Island and used to good seafood.

We lov Cape May and try to go on every trip.
The best part is the steamed mussels and clams.
We have eaten there 7 or 8 times and have never had a bad experience and have never seen the mussels in any type of sauce. (just steamed and dunk butter).

The rest of the buffet is better than most of the other WDW buffets.

A cant Miss.

My family loves to eat at Cape May. Here's a short review for you: Cape May Buffet

Since my last visit, they have added a Prime Rib Cutting station. Planning on updating this review after our March 2005 trip.

Where in New England??

While Cape May is a very good buffet -- it is not what I would consider a true "NE clam bake".

It is however one of the better WDW buffets.

Have you tried the Flying Fish.

My family ate at Cape May for Thanksgiving last year because they offered seafood along with the traditional dinner. It was recommened to us from a fellow disner on this board. Needless to say we will be returning this year again. Not one complaint from us! There wasn't any sauce with our clams just lots of butter. A very good deal for your money.
Enjoy,
Darlene

Ho Hum, as DW restaurants go...................

IMHO..........Cape May is way overrated on these boards....

Just my two cents..............

We ate there three times during our last trip. (We stayed at BCV so it did make it easy.) I absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back. In fact, we'll stay at BCV again partly because of Cape May being in the resort.

I know I am in the minority here, but it really isn't one of my faves. We used to love it and do this one every trip, but the last couple of times we just weren't that impressed, so we've skipped it the last two trips.

However, that said, there is plenty of food (for non-seafood lovers, too) and lots of people like. I say give it a try, you may love it!

We ate at Cape May last August for the first time. Our group was made up of adults and children, seafood lovers and non-seafood lovers.

Everyone really enjoyed it and we will definitely be going back this September.

Hope you like it.

Here is how my family and I felt about the Clam Bake when we ate there last November:

Dinner this evening was at the Cape May Clam Bake at the BC (in the same cafe where the character breakfast is served). This is a buffet, and I suppose that since 4 types of fish are offered, that's reason enough to charge more than for a character meal (I think it was about $24 per adult). Well, the general consensus from the fish-eaters (that's everyone but me), was that the fish was good, but not extraordinary. These fish offerings were: clams in a butter and garlic sauce, mussels in some other sauce, which no one can accurately describe to me (sorry!), peel & eat shrimp, and the fish 'o the day, which was baked salmon. If you wanted a bucket of crab legs, it was $11.95 extra, so everyone declined. For landlubbers like me, there was prime rib at the carving station (really tender and delicious), roasted chicken (looked good enough but no one tried it), and barbecue ribs (pretty good with extra sauce available). Then there were many, many salads: pasta salad (good), caesar salad (takers said it was delicious), green salad, cole slaw, a sweet slaw of julienne carrots, broccoli, and shredded red cabbage with raisins that was fantastic, three bean salad (DD liked this and a ton of shrimp), and a few others that I just can't remember. There was corn on the cob (so-so but that's no one's fault), mashed red-skinned potatoes, rice pilaf (good), green beans with bacon (yummy), and a few more things that I missed because there was so much. Then there was the kids' buffet of tater tot-like triangles, mini hotdogs (cute!), macaroni & cheese, pizza, and those chicken tenders that are so good that all the adults had some! DD was very happy with her special buffet, but as usual, the shrimp were her favorite - poor DH had to peel what seemed like hundreds while we were there!

Now let's talk dessert - the dessert bar was so awesome that it needs its own paragraph! The family favorite was the berry-topped flan - so light and delicious! A close second was the key lime tart - fabulous! DH loved the apple cobbler the most. My Dad said the chocolate cake was his favorite. There was also cheesecake, Oreo bonbons, blondies (DH liked these very much) and some tasty brownies. Too bad we were too full to taste them all! Well, DH was the only one who said he wouldn't go out of his way to eat there again, because he didn't feel that the fish justified the prices, but the rest of us really enjoyed it. So, whereas DH woud give it a B-, the rest of us felt it deserved a B+.

Let me just add that we do not budget ourselves at all when it comes to eating at WDW - it's our vacation and we don't like to skimp on food. That being said, DH and I felt that the selection and quality of fish did not justify the higher-than-most buffet price. Everything else, however, was terrific! Have a great time whatever you decide! ::yes::

I can't stand it!!! I can smell Cape May right now reading this board. We ABSOLUTELY love Cape May Cafe. Now with a Prime Rib cutting board ( I don't think that was there the last time we were there) it's going to be AWESOME. :bounce:

I love the steamed mussels, I'm allergic to them but with a little benadryl I'm usually okay. But the allergic reaction is worth it!! ;)

There was a Prime Rib carving station in October but when we were there at the end of March, it was Brisket. I love Cape May Cafe.

I'm from New England also, and love good seafood. My wife and I love Fulton's Crab House in Downtown Disney. Their lobster and crab dish for two is amazing. They also have some of the best calamari I have ever had.

I've never eaten at Cape May, but I plan on trying it out on my next Visit.

We dine at cape may every visit, we stay at the BC and make reservation for dinner the night of our arrival its a tradition, we love it after travelling on a plane all day its nice to have a good meal. Lot's of choices, my husband loves the mussels and clams all you can eat he will usually eat 3 buckets.

Have a wonderful time.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

DH and I plan to try Cape May when we stay at the BC in Oct. I just have one question. Why is it called "Cape May"? The YC/BC is supposed to be modeled on New England. Cape May is in New Jersey.
