How far to book for winter 2010?

We are new to DVC. Our property is at Saratoga Springs, but we want to put in a request to stay at either BLT AK or over near Boardwalk in January or February 2010. So, should we be putting in the request now? I'm not familiar with the program, so I don't know how good are chances are of getting that during that time.

Anyone have any advice? And anyone have a recommendation out of those? Sorry I'm newer and not quite with the lingo.

You can only book outside of your home resort 7 months or less from your vacation. You would not be able to book January 2010 at those resorts until June 2009.

I can't tell you how likely you are to get them. I too am a "newbie" and I actually have not yet stayed at "Home" Good Luck!!

I am new as well but here is what I know. You can book ressies at SSR 11 months ahead of your trip and the "waitlist" for one of those other resorts. Or, if you don't want to waitlist, you can call back 7 months in advance of your trip to see if those other resorts have availability and then change the reservation.

There are some new rules regarding how many "waitlists" you can have so you would not be able to waitlist all 3 of those resorts.

By booking SSR at 11 months, you know you will have a room if for some reason you can't get those other resorts.

You can not submit a waitlist for anything other than your home resort before the 7 month window starts. You call at 7 months for your non-home resort, if the dates you want are not available, then you may start a waitlist.

Yes, if you call and waitlist at 7 months out, assuming nothing is available at 7 months out, it will automatically switch you should an opening occur. We waitlisted AK concierge for March and never got it though. My brother waitlisted at BCV or BWV (i forget) for January and never got it. Our trips in December and September we had no problem switching to a non-home resort.
