So I was doing some shopping around to figure out prices for the Harbor Ave hotels. I was finding that a lot of the hotels were already sold out at times I thought they wouldn't be yet. Early December, October, etc. We are looking at going the latter part of next year. How early do I need to look at booking the hotel?

I would book as early as you can. Just make sure you understand the change/cancellation policies. This past year we've stayed at BWPPI a couple times - it was super easy to drop a night and we had great luck adding a night as well. We also stayed at the newer Homewood Suites by the Toy Story lot. Making any changes always increased the rate by quite a bit. I think they basically make you re-book at the current rates which are always higher.

I booked my early dec hotel 9 mos prior to the dates of travel. I always do as soon as I know my dates. Prices have increased dramatically. We’ll be at bwppi.

Prices have gone up dramatically at Motel6 Maingate? That's a bummer! Since it's so reasonable, it's always been where we stay first night before moving onsite. Off to price check......

We are set for December probably booked around March. If booking with Disney you can make changes up to 30 days before and if booking separately just choose hotels that you can cancel until you are sure what you want.

We just booked for November 2019! we wanted to visit the new Star wars land, and thought we would go with the usually quiet week before thanksgiving. I am sure next year that week will not be a quiet one, but hopefully not completely packed. Compared to going the week of Christmas I think anything else is good! done that twice now, once by choice when we said never again, second time had to if we wanted to go with our grand kids :( and now we will never ever no matter what go back then! Lol!! booking so far out at the new Grand Legacy we got a really good rate compared to the rates for the same time period of this year, so yes I think you do get the best rate booking well in advance.

We've found that anything less than 3 mos out and we might not be able to get the hotel(s) we want.

Wait--late next year (like 2019?). A lot of places on Harbor aren't sold out--the dates just haven't been released/open yet. Most (apparently not all, as noted by smiley_face2 above) open/release about 11 months ahead in my experience.

We usually book as soon as possible, which seems to yield the lowest rates.
