How far out for rentals?

Has anyone had luck with requesting rentals within a few months? I was considering planning something for this summer but not sure if a rental would even be possible at this point, and am trying to keep the cost down a bit.

You obviously have the rent/transfer boards here but due to how that's structured, confirmed reservations are quite limited.

You can also try the DVC rental groups on Facebook. Lots of posts there of confirmed reservations by owners as well as "ISO" posts by renters.

If you're flexible on resort and dates, you should have no trouble getting something for summer in either place. Studios at OKW, SSR, and AKV Savanna view should have plenty of availability, and 1BRs at multiple resorts (eg BRV or BWV) should still be plentiful as well. You may also find limited possibilities for consecutive studio dates at BRV or PVB. If you're less flexible on dates/resort then Facebook is probably your best bet (watch out for scammers). The DVC rental sites is always a possibility as well, but likely won't be the cheapest option.

The brokers who act as an intermediary for rentals really push for in advance rentals and pay less money for rentals that are sooner, I think thats why it's a bit harder. I have 2 reservations that I am trying to rent with board sponsor that are May and July and they have not rented yet. I had 2 in October those both rented right away.

I’ve been thinking about end of May. But I’m wondering if I should wait for next year.

We’ve rented a couple times with the board sponsor but always far out.

When renting I believe your cancel policy is going to be about the same so I would do whatever works best for you. I do think you will find better pricing closer to the time though.

The main issue with a rental not far out is availability, unless it is a pre existing reservation. A lot of DVC resorts have limited availability at 7 months most of the year, sometimes even at 11 months. Certain rooms at certain resorts are never available.

As others have said, if flexable with dates and places should be able to piece something together. If its a certain resort, room, time, not likely.
