I see on here where someone posted about borrowing 2010 points. If our UY is Oct. Can you borrow from those points already?? I know we borrowed some from this Oct. 09. Thanks. Just curious. :goodvibes

You can borrow points as far out as you are eligible to make a reservation.

You can borrow points from the use year following the use year the date of stay is in. You have an October use year. 2008 points are for stays 10/1/08 to 9/30/09, you could borrow 2009 points for a stay within those dates. 2009 points are from 10/1/09 to 9/30/10, you could borrow 2010 points for a stay within those dates. You could not borrow 2010 points for a stay before 10/1/09.

AH Ha now why didn't I think of that:! Duh......:rotfl2: Thanks so much.

Just to make sure we're on the same page:

Borrowing is always associated with a reservation, and the earliest one can make a reservation is 11 months in advance. So the earliest one could actually borrow points would be at 11 months. However, at that time, you are able to borrow points from your next use year in which the reservation falls if you need to.

In the case of the October use year, if in Nov 2009 you wanted to make a reservation for October of 2010 that required more points than you had, you could borrow your 2011 points to complete the reservation. So in November of 2009, you have borrowed your 2011 points.

So you've borrowed your points for an October 2010 stay from October of 2011 in November of 2009. Almost 2 years in advance.

Easiest way to remember is that you can always borrow from the use year following the year the reservation dates fall in.

Sorry if I didn't get what you were asking originally!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if your stay spans your use year switch (begins in one UY and ends in the next UY) you can borrow points from the 2nd year out for the days in the 2nd UY.

For instance:

UY begins 1 October
You have stay booked for 28 September - 2 October 2010
**You can use 2009 UY points and/or borrow 2010 UY points for 28-29-30 September
**You can use 2010 UY points and/or borrow 2011 UY points for 1-2 October

Is my understanding correct?

I think your understanding is correct. At least I follow it.
We just booked for Nov 28, 08 through Dec 5, 08. Our UY is December, so your scenario fits us (even though we did not have to borrow)

We booked a 1BR SV at Kidani Village. Our UY 08 pts we used to book 11/28, 11/29, and 11/30. (96 pts) MS banked our remaining points into UY 09 and used 114 pts for 12/1 -12/5. Leaving us with an additional 20 pts bakned to use in UY 09.

So for this particular trip, IF we had wanted to go ALL OUT. I would have been able to borrow from UY 10, for those Dec dates that fell into UY 09.

Exactly. And again, the easiest way to remember this is that you can always borrow points, if needed, from the use year following the one the reservation dates fall into.

WOW this got a little confusing but I do understand now. Thanks:thumbsup2

What is often the point of confusion is that members try to think through the situation based on date they are calling to reserve. Simplest way to look at it is to ignore date you call to reserve, look only at dates you will be at WDW, and whatever use year those dates fall within will be your "current" use year for that trip. Then work off of that to determine whether you need to bank from the "prior" use year or need to borrow from the "subsequent" use year.

That does help a lot. :goodvibes
