How far is it?

Is it worth going to?

Looks fun on the website!!

It's probably about an hour and a half away, depending on traffic in L.A. I highly recommend going though, especially if you are a roller coaster nerd (like me ;) )

I would also go take a look at the ride list and your kiddos height. A lot (if not most) of the coasters you have to be either 48", 52" or 54". If your kiddos aren't tall enough for most of the stuff you may want to wait on it.

For me, it's worth going. I'm a thrill seeker, and the coasters quench my thirst lol. As for the time, I got there from Anaheim in 40 minutes. I was surprised I got there so fast, the thing is, I was cruising at a steady 65-70 as well lol. There was NO traffic. I left at around 8am in the morning.

Travel time really depends on the day and time you go. It can't take as little as the 40 min. indicated above or it can take twice that. Also, it's really subjective. We did it in 06 with the girls and they have never asked to do it again, they would rather just do DL. They did have fun but we aren't huge into roller coasters so we are OK skipping Magic Mountain.

I see Six Flags Magic Mountain every single day when I look out my bedroom window. I've never been as fortunate as some of the others to make the trip between here and Anaheim in 40 minutes, I usually find it takes me about an hour in good traffic, and I have taken 2-3 hours in really rotten traffic. I haven't been to Magic Mountain in years because I didn't find anything for my younger children(at the time) to do, plus I didn't enjoy the way it felt to me. Pretty much everyone around here that I know has annual passes to Disneyland. If you like extreme rides, then it's definitely a place you'll enjoy.

It took us 75 minutes to drive there in the summer from Disneyland. As we are huge coaster fans though we decided to stay over night at the Hilton at the bottom of Magic Mountain Parkway so we could have 2 days in the park. Going in the summer we were really glad we did this as because it is in the mountains it got really, really hot in the mid day sun. So we were able to take a mid day break and go back when it was cooler. Also if you want to ride all the coasters, including X2 you really need to be there for the park opening as X2 is not a thrill pass (fastpass) ride and the lines for that get ridiculous, and stay really, really long throughout the day.

When DH and I were there last Sept. (07) we thought it was such a ghetto park! Maybe the Police Station in the parking lot should have told us something!?! It was dirty and the bathrooms were disgusting. It was so run down and there are a TON of hills. There doesn't seem to be any sense to the "lands" and you have to walk a lot to get from one thing to another with no theming or anything to look at. We were there on a Sunday and only stayed until about one in the afternoon and only rode 4 rides. We rode Tatsu and a couple of other rides, but that was all. They were fun, but I wouldn't spend my time there. It was disappointing after/before Disneyland. We wouldn't go again - unless we were only there with adults and didn't have any small children with us.

You don't go to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the family atmosphere or the great theming offered by Disneyland. As other posters mentioned, you go to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the thrill rides that Disneyland lacks. If you are into thrill rides and have kids who are old enough (and tall enough) to ride them and appreciate them, X2, Tatsu, Deja Vu, Goliath, Batman, Riddler's Revenge, Superman, Scream, etc. are worth the price of admission.
