How far is Simi Valley califronia from Anaheim?

If its close enough might make for an interesting side trip.

You're looking at a 2 hour drive at least (each way) from the DL area of Anaheim (Anaheim is really large in area and oddly shaped). You could try Mapquesting it and see exactly how far it is. You only have to put in the business names of DL and I assume the Reagan Library and it will give you directions and tell you approximately how long it would take and how many miles it is.

Thanks for the reply we will be in Anaheim in 2 weeks I thought it might be interesting considering we will be out there . I imagine it will be quite crowded for a while.

We made the trip from Disneyland to the Reagan Library a couple of years ago. It was on a Sunday (early) and it was a lovely drive since there wasn't much traffic to speak of--I don't think I would like to try it during a weekday. I think it took around an hour on a Sunday (with no traffic). (Maybe a slightly more than a hour )

There is another Presidential library right close to Disneyland, too

The Nixon Library is an easy side trip from Disneyland. I was very impressed with this Presidential library (they have a lot of items on display). If you have time, it is definately worth a look.

I never really thought about doing this befor but it might be kinda neat the view of the are are gorgeous from what we see on TV.

I have never been to california so I"m trying to tak in as much as we can.

I was thinkin the same thing last night! I even did the mapquest and told DH that I think it would be good to do the side trip. BUt, what do you actually do at the library? I have never been to a Presidential library and don't know what the attraction is.

I have only been to one presidential library - JFK's in Boston. There were wonderful exhibits and several short films. Personally, I think it's wonderful for children to see. Ours loved it and said they want to go back some day. During the last Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, there was a great exhibit that we went to as well. In those two trips, the kids learned more about the presidency than they have learned in their history books, (Nothing against their history books - there is just no comparison) , and they had fun in the process!

Does anyone know if you can take public transportation to the Nixon Library? We won't be renting a car.

I am doing the same thing when we go this August. We were going to leave around noon on Thursday to head back up to my parent's house in the Bay Area....decided just to go up 101 instead of 5 and stop off at the Library. I don't think the traffic would be bad if you try and go between the hours of 10-2. The library hours are 10-5 and it's $7 ages 10 and up, $5 for seniors and 10 and under are free.

As mbkteach said, films and exhibits. Often times, there is a frank look at the issues and controversies that occured while the man was in office (I've visited JFK's, Truman's, Nixon's and Reagan's libraries so far).
Reagan's Library has lots and lots and lots of photos. There are also papers and momentos. I recall seeing that letter that RR wrote after he found out he had alzheimers disease. I remember feeling sad about the news when the story first broke, but to see this letter in the library made me cry. There was just something so personal about it.
There is a copy of the Oval office which you can step inside (kind of cool ). They also have an Air Force One there--but, unfortunately, it doesn't go on display until 2005.

You can go to the website for the library and get an idea as to the special exhibits that are on display.
We always take our DS along to see presidential homes and libraries (since he was a wee one). Now that DS is older (15.5), we have some interesting discussions on historical events from the parent's perspective and then in the context of the presidential papers that are on display.

I had my DH come over and I read to him what everyone wrote, then he looks at your countdown timer to the long range WDW planning and starts laughing.... He thinks we are all nuts! LOL... I think you are right about that.

My long range trip is a special one because it is in association with my retirement date. I thought it would be fun to have a big party down in WDW to celebrate... (So, I will have to be looking far into the future to banking/borrowing my DVC points.)

I just wish I could break the 2,000 point (I guess that is another year off!)...When you are in the 1,000's, it takes a long time...
