How far is Santa Monica Pier from DLH?

We were going to get a town car to pick us up at the Hotel and take us around Hollywood with possibly lunch in Santa Monica. Anyone have any clue how long of a drive it would be? My thoughts are maybe taking a cab to the pier and then having the town car pick us up after an early lunch to tour Hollywood. At $60 an hour plus tip, I thought we could save a couple of hours on the town car fee. We would do this on a Saturday in November so I didn't think there would be as much traffic as a week day. Any thoughts?

It's about a 40 mile drive and about a 45 min to 1hr 15 min drive depending on the traffic.
