should I rent an ECV?

I have a trip planned for Sept 30- Oct 7. I've been dealing with a messed up knee for about 6 months now. After much testing and physical therapy my Orthopedic Dr thinks I may need surgery.

Being as the trip is over MKs 50th, do I need to rent one soon?

I would suggest calling Gold Mobility, they will sit with you and help figure out what is best for you and your needs.

Also, if you call them you can reserve now and not pay until delivery.

Ok, thanks. Another question--which is better for WDW a 3 wheeled for 4 wheeled scooter?

I personally cannot stand the 4 wheel scooter because it is so much more difficult to steer in tight places. The 3 wheel is much easier to make sharp turns (not while going fast however). The 3 wheel makes it much easier to navigate the tight turns you find in some ride lines. I've never once felt it was unstable.

Like my friend @Selket, I prefer a 3-wheel for WDW; they tend to have a tighter turning radius, and move through the queues a bit easier as a result.

There are folks here who feel like they are "tippy-er". Personally, I have used (my own) 3 wheel device for more than 5 years on a daily basis, and never have had it try to tip over yet. The biggest safety tip is to mind your speed - if you try to turn (either a tight, sharp corner, or a wide, sweeping turn) while going too fast, it would indeed be possible to tump over. That is easily avoided by minding your speed.

The other thing to watch out for is to make sure you cross the tracks in Main Street at MK at an angle - you don't want a tire to get caught down in the groove; it can easily result in an accident.

Let us know if you need any more information about using a scooter at WDW!

Yes exactly! I just go carefully over the tracks even if I need to wait a sec for some people to clear away. I usually operate the ECV at the speed of people with me or, if I am alone, I pick some random average person in front of me and go at their pace more or less. Unless you plan to drive it like an Indy car I think the biggest thing to avoid is being very, very careful about curbs if you're on a sidewalk. Don't get so close driving parallel that the scooter's wheels might go off. Same goes for the walkways (like the one from MK to CR) - I don't know if you'd tip over but make sure to pay attention to exactly where I am. It's easy to be some place like that alone or with family and chatting and perhaps not notice you're close to the edge. Or maybe that's just me - haha! This would apply to 3 and 4 wheel both I think!

along with my friends earlier I also go with the 3 wheeler for the same reasons. I even had the one I was using years ago on the upper floor of Garden Grill even with the manger telling me it was not possible.
