I am curious to see how far in advance people usually send out invitations. The event in question is a Bridal Shower.

For the record I am not the one sending anything out or coordinating the shower.

Don't send them too early that people may forget about it and don't send too late where people already have plans.
For 'showers' I would send them out 4 to 5 weeks in advance.

Since a shower usually involves the purchase of a gift, no sooner than 3 weeks before the event. That gives people time to inquire and shop or decline.

Ok, so I am not out of line for thinking that invitations for a shower that is being held on March 20th should have been already sent out?

I just got an email from my friends Matron of Honor today asking if I knew of a place to hold the shower because the original place fell through and she did not find out until this weekend when she called the person who was suppose to host of for their address to put on the invitations.

I received an invitation to a shower on Friday, that is being held March 13.

For my daughter's birthday, I am a stickler for sending them out close to a month beforehand (either EXACTLY one month or a few days after).

No, I still think its OK. You still have 3 weeks and I think thats plenty of time.

I send kids invitations about 10 days ahead. To early, and they get set aside, and forgotten, and too late, the kids usually have other plans. I just got one for the 3rd weekend in March, and she requested an RSVP by the 5th of March. I will let her know that I can not RSPV that early (weekends in March are so busy for us).

Although 4 weeks is the "accepted" amount for a briday shower (informal parties and such is usually 2 weeks) , 3 weeks is still ok. But I wouldn't expect anything less than 3 weeks.

At this point it will be less than 3 weeks, since as of right now they don't know where they are having it.

Thankfully it isn't going to be a ton of people, but I am going to feel bad for the bride if a lot of those people can't end up coming because of the short notice.

I offered some suggestions on where to have it, but the Matron of Honor hasn't gotten back to me (or the other girls) with an idea of a budget. All I know is that it is a VERY tight budget. Well my idea of a tight budget is I'm sure different than her idea.
