How far in advance to make a reservation

My family and I are planning on renting points next year and I know you normally make reservations 11 months in advance. My problem is that my husband is a police officer and they bid on their vacation based on their seniority. This means we will not know if he will get the week we are planning on (Dec 7-13,2003) until the end of Feb. next year. We will be wanting a 2 bedroom at the OKW, will 9 months in advance be ok since it will be an off peak period? We would only be doing a Sun-Thurs at OKW and Fri-Sat at one of the other resorts. Any advice would be great thanks.

That is a very popular time for DVC members to use the resorts but I don't think it would be impossible for you to find someone who could book it for you. Remember, to make arrangements with the person on how things will be handled if you have to cancel your trip. It's not like a regular hotel reservation where you can easily cancel with no penalty.

I guess I have no reason to complain at my department when I get bumped for vac time!!!!!! Same deal here, as a junior officer on my shift have the same problem. What we did was book anyway at the 11 month window, if I got bumped I would cancel and try another date, but original date would still be there. Thankfully I got my vac time that I wanted (Nov 28-Dec 12 2002).
