How far in advance should you start calling for a cash reservation? I know my dates and I'm 11 months out right now. Just wondering how this process works as I am new to DVC. Thanks!

don't think it hurts to call and check.

cash inventory is made available by disney when they feel like it, based on the points they own or are managing. it's hard to know for sure how they make those decisions.

Cash reservations may be made 11 months in advance, based on availability. MS first responsibility is to have enough villas available for point reservations, but they commonly do have cash nights available at 11 months (sometimes with the 25% member discount too).

This availability is based on past booking patterns and developer points not needed for maintenance/renovation schedules.

I would certainly call and see if any of your dates are available for cash reservations.

Thanks! I just got off the phone with MS and they said it has to be 7 months out for cash res, not 11?? I will keep trying, but would love to know the facts!

Intersted to know what is a cash reservation?
Villas can/will be available for cash (and not for points) based on several situations. They include:
  • Breakage inventory which is usually 60 days or less but can be anticipated at 11 months out.
  • Undeclared inventory owned by DVD.
  • Unsold points owned by DVC.
  • Points returned to DVD by ROFR, foreclosure, etc.
  • Any points traded for cash type options.
  • Villas given to RCI but these would not be available through DVC but other means.

Hey Dean.....Hello!! :goodvibes
I haven't come across any of your posts since we had the discussion about BLT not selling over $100 per pt. Too bad we didn't bet on it..:rotfl2:

I'm looking to make a cash ressie, with the 25% DVC discount. Does anyone know what the rules are or "when" I can do that?? :confused3

You have me at a disadvantage, can you point to a post to refresh my memory. I don't think BLT full size contracts are selling for a $100 though, just in the $90's but they are listed in the $100 range.

Potentially you can make that reservation at up to 11 months out and may or may not get the discount. Historically you could make the nervation and get the discount later if it was offered. I'd call at 11 months out and see and proceed accordingly. You could always cancel later if plans changed, the discount didn't come through or you found something cheaper like a transfer of points rental.

I called 11 months in advance to book the GV at BLT for 5 nights. I asked about paying cash at VGF for the final 2 nights of the trip (since we used all of our points on the GV). Not only was I able to get a VGF studio and 2bdr paying cash, but there were also options for cash at VWL and one other resort (can't remember).

Not sure if I got a discount, but honestly the price wasn't too bad. It was what I would expect to pay at a Deluxue resort. I guess I could call around 7mos. to see if I can have a discount applied.

My point is, yes, you can book cash 11mos. in advance.

forgot to add: I did this through DVC on the phone.

FYI ALL.....

I did call yesterday and had no problem getting the cash DVC 25% discount on the dates I needed in May 15'.

Certainly less expensive for a DVC accomodation than a regular "rack" room. I'll remember that if I ever need not to use my pts. again.

The cm said nothing about restricted times. I had a flexible window, no restrictions anywhere/anytime, and he checked and gave me prices on all the resorts I wanted and ALL had cash availability. (BCV, BWV, VWL, BLT.)

Now I can more easily make ressies at my "home" on my pts. for F&WF next year!!

Thanks ALL for the tips!!!!

Keep an eye out for public discounts or annual pass discounts if you have an AP. I got a 35% off AP discount BWV studio last year through CRO. Luckily a points room came through and I didn't need it. Even at 35% off it was almost $300 a night.

Yes...I have an AP and have used it's discount in the past....though I remember a 40% discount back then....I know about that higher discount,,but..didn't want to take a chance in waiting and maybe not getting it...
...so I booked BCV for $321. I will keep an eye out for that 35% and call to see if/when a room is available.
Thanks for the reminder!! :thumbsup2
