To those of you who live in "Hotlanta"...how long is the drive from Atlanta to Disney? Fulton Co. to be precise. We're flying on our upcoming trip, but I'm thinking about going next year and driving. My aunt lives in Atlanta and we have an open invitation to stay there.

We're coming from central WV (11 hours to Atlanta) and I thought that would be a nice place to break up the trip.

We live just south of Fulton County and it took us about 6 hours with road construction to get here! It's not a bad drive, just plan for construction in Macon and Valdosta. We also had two stops - one for gas and a quick bite and the other to visit the rest area.

Hope that helps!!

A good rule of thumb is to plan for 8 hours (inclusive of stops) and you won't be disappointed. Nothing worse than taking longer than you planned :headache:, but everyone is happy when it's shorter! :dance3:

Be careful and have a safe trip!

We live in Kennesaw which is North of Atlanta. It takes us a little under 8 hours if we can not have to stop too much. To do that we leave at like 3 or 4 am. We can get just about half way there before the kids wake up. Then we stop somewhere like Cracker Barrell for breakfast and head out again. We stop after about 2 hours for the kids to stretch and then we are within 1 Disney movie from the property. :) That said, we much prefer to fly if we can get a good deal on tickets. On the way home we are all tired so we usually break the trip in to 2 days. We leave WDW mid afternoon and drive about half way and stop for the night. We have dinner and get some sleep then get up and have a good breakfast before we head home. By the time you add up 2 breakfasts at somewhere like Cracker Barrell, a dinner somewhere like Chili's one or two drive through meals, gas and a hotel room for a night, we can buy at least 2 of our plane tickets with a good sale.

September will be the first trip with our son, and from experience, it is just about 8 hours from Alpharetta (just north of the city) to Orlando. Since we are getting a late start on Friday (have to work), we are going to spend the night in Gainesville, FL at a Holiday Inn since my mother gets an employee discount, and this will allow our four-year old son a not-too late night to swim or sleep in a bed before the remaining two hour drive to the Beach Club.

I live right at the top end of the city, and I usually make it in 7.5 hours - one stop for gas/bathroom/fast food. I also have no kids, so that tends to shorten the lenght of breaks and decrease the number of stops :)

Thanks everybody! The drive to Orlando isn't nearly as long as I thought it was! (We lived in Marietta for 4 years and never ONCE went to Disney! Oh the shame of it!) :sad2: I think that will be a good stop for us.
