How far does your over the range microwave stick out beyond the cabinet?

I hope you understand what I am trying to ask. I thought the front of the microwave was suppose to be flush with the front of the cabinets, but ours is going to be about 3-4 inches farther out than the front of the cabinets. Is that the way it should be or should I look for a smaller one? My husband has already mounted the bracket and he is not going to be happy with me if I change my mind! I really like this microwave. It seems pretty nice and has lots of features. He swears I buy the biggest and most expensive of everything I have looked at for this kitchen remodel!

That sounds normal to me. If it was flush with your cabinet the microwave would be too small. Are you sure it is going to be 3 or 4 inches? They are a standard size and I've seen them stick out only about 2.5 inches.

This is a Whirlpool OTR microwave and it has a contoured door on it. It will be even further out at the center of the door than it is on the sides. He told me it would be 3 inches or so, but then again you got to remember he is not crazy about me getting such a big one! Thanks for you response.

Mine sticks out about an inch. If it stuck out further, I doubt I would notice.

Mine is about two inches. I actually had to check before posting, so I guess it doesn't make a negative impression on me.

I just took mine down as we're ripping the wall down and I changed out my stove - anyway - I had an Advantium - it's now downstairs in my garage waiting for somebody to come and claim it. Going by the line of grease along the sides and the top - mine stuck out 2.5"

Ours sticks out about 2-3" Honestly I never even noticed until I went to check for this thread.
