How far does the free 50 mb of internet go?

I have tried to find out how much data a text message (with and without pics) takes or checking email or going online for a little bit to check bank account. Anyone know?

What happens when you have used it all? Do you just run a bill up or do they notify you?

the access stops once you reach the 50mb. then you can purchase another package or have the option of going by the MB.

I find 50MB is plenty for us to both check our emails once a day on a 4 night cruise with some left over. Make sure you change the settings on your phone as they recommend and sign out after each log in, or you will burn through it much quicker.

I never even came close to using the 50 MB on our WBTA. Now I couldn't actually get online for the first few days, the CM at the computer area had to re-set my account. I also just checked e-mails to see if there was anything important and to send off quick ones to family. I also took advantage when we were in port to use free wi-fi. Trying to check in online for our flight home was what took the most MB and even then I gave up as the website would not recognize Puerto Rico.

good point on the free onshore wifi. We had a day pass to the Westin in Grand Cayman on our recent Magic cruise and got a lot of usage from their free wifi.

The 50 MB was sufficient for me on both a 3 day and 7 day to do what the OP asked, check emails and bank info. Make sure your phone is in airplane mode and log-out of the program each time you finish.

If you 're just going to check emails occasionally it will last awhile. If you are going to upload photos or try streaming, you will use it much faster.

We got the 50MB package on our 4 night cruise and actually had a little left over. Also got it on each leg of our B2B Fantasy cruises and had plenty. Two of us, checking e-mails every couple of days. We did have pretty much everything turned off that would automatically update the computer.

We just take along additional memory cards and deal with pictures once we get home.

Make sure you disable updates... that was a 300mb mistake for me.

100 MB on a 7 night cruise with Norwegian was plenty for me. That was pretty heavy use. The big killer was instagram and having videos automatically play on FB. Once I disabled that and stopped using IG I was fine.

On our last 7 day cruise, I was able to just check email for the entire trip. I really limited my time and did not post pictures or receive FB updates. When my usage was up, it just gave me a notice stating that I no longer had internet access. My husband didn't use it at all which helped me stretch out my usage.

There was no 50MB "package" on our recent cruise. When you first access wifi, you are offered 50MB for free, is you use that then you have the option of purchasing packages that started at 100MB. I suspect that is still the case.

It shows on the Navigator the first day. I think it says IF you sign up for the 50 free MB on the first day it is free to use on your cruise. There is a charge after that day.

I didn't plan on using it at all but since they offer 50 mb for free I thought I might be able to check emails a couple of times and maybe send a text message or two. Then I might check my bank account once. If not then that is perfectly ok with me to do without for a week. That is actually one perk of being on a cruise. I can tell work - sorry I can't be reached since I will be on a cruise

Awesome! Even better. Just me and my daughter going on our next cruise so it will be nice for my daughter to text'd mom and post pic on FB for her friends. It will alos be nice for my daughter and I to be able to text each other on the ship. I teased my daughter about this yesterday when I read this thread. I told Jamie, "Hey this is cool, I can send you texts on the ship, 'Hey Jamie, while you are getting some chicken fingers, please get me a slice of pizza, some fries and a hamburger and bring back to the room. I am sitting in the verandah. Hey, bring me a bottle of water too. And some ice cream...'".
