How far do you drive to get to the Fort??

I just wanted to know how far you all have to drive to get to the Fort? We have about 21 hours and I can't say that I'm looking forward to it Any tips and advice to make it easier on the kids, hence making it easier on us?? What do you do to make it go by faster? Do you drive straight there or make overnight stops? Tell me your driving routine

I live in york pa and it takes about 16-17 hours without stopping one way!! But lord knows I would not survive being in a car with DH that long!!

1,028 one way.. we usually stop over night about half way going and coming from the Fort. Hoping gasoline stays under 4$ a gallon or DH says we are staying in a value.....

DomesticDiva .....I am around your neck of the woods ...Windsor, Ontario. We break up the drive over 2 days and it takes us about 20 hrs.

We have driven from Connecticut to Florida twice. We leave around noon on Friday so that we can get through most of NJ before dinner. Dinner at Cracker Barrel just before the Delaware Bridge.

Then we begin the movie marathon - whatever you want to watch for as long as you want. I usually drive till 2 am, then DW takes aturn until daybreak. Then with daylight I get back in and drive. We take a breakfast stop, crack up the DVD player again and keep going. We are usually done by noon (we visit family in the Jacksonville area.

The trick is to be sure to get though NJ before 5:00 (we missed on one trip and it was not good). If you get stuck, you can always pull over for a nap. It is more difficult / tiring on the way back but can be done with enough coffee. However, we have broken down and gotten a hotel room on the way back.

With the pop-up behind us, it takes us about 22-23 hours to Jacksonville.

One fun thing in the middle of the night is to watch other people's DVD as there are typically thousands of people doing this along I-95 (Not while drivng of course!)

We're about 900 miles.

If we're not pulling the camper, we drive through the night. When we take the camper, we do it in 2 days, as I don't want to be driving that thing, so DH has to do it all.

Our boys are 9 & 11 - surprisingly, they listening to books on tape from the library. In fact, they'll listen the whole drive down (16+ hours) and not even ask for a DVD, though we bring those too.

We drive straight through, now that i have a son-in-law to help me drive. We pull a 30 ft travel trailer so we only get about 9 mpg. With a 44 gal gas tank I will stop for gas 3 times, also we stop at a few rest areas to stretch our legs and walk the dogs. I love my "The Next Exit" book. It gives a quick reference to all available stores and gas stations along the way. That makes it easy to plan ahead when we will pull over to access the RV friendly gas stations( they are in red). From north east Texas its a 1000 mile trip. It takes about 19.5 hours driving 60 mph and making all those stops. Then we lose an hour to the time zone change, so about 20.5 hours. Like others, we have a dvd player and a laptop with a cell air card. I hate to stop for a night on the way like we used to, its just waisting too much time, Fort Wilderness here we come!

Hi! We live in NEPA, and it takes us 19-22 hours to get to the Fort depending on the construction. We have 4 kids ages 2-13, and DH used to love driving through the night because they would sleep through most of the trip!
We are new to towing a tt, so we have been splitting the drive 12 hours 1 day, 7-9 hours the next. It's harder on the kids, but easier on DH, and we get there safe! We are lucky because the kids are great, we have 1 DVD in the middle for the younger 2, and 1 in the back for the older 2. They are so used to the drive that they really just watch for other RVs now inatead of watching the DVDs!

I thought we were 1268 miles from the Fort until I looked at my trip report and calculation on Mapquest. We're 1111 miles to the Fort. That's a big difference in the long haul!

According to google maps we are 2268 Km from Disney, it says about 22 hours and 12 minutes, but that is without stops and towing in mind. I am positive we will be stopping for a break, I can't imagine driving straight down. The kids would be all geared to go to the parks and we'd be on the verge of a big long NAP!!

We are a little over 1330 miles from the Fort, but we add on a few miles to go the scenic route around NY City and Washington DC.

We come from north central Massachusetts, and typically take Route 84 to Route 81, then jump over to 95 somewhere around Fredericksburg.

We used to travel through the night, but will be travelling during the day now with the travel trailer. We will be leaving very early in the morning, plan on first night near Fredericksburg, then two nights on SC coast. We're not in a rush this time and have been looking out the window at those states for so many trips before, that we want to stop along the way.

Only 114 days to go!

We are from the niagara area and we do the trip in 2 days. We stop at Knoxville the first night and then arrive at Disney around 4 pm the next day. Have been doing this for the past 10 years and it works out great. October will be our first trip to FW, just DH and I tent camping, can't wait!!!

We are 1496.77 miles from the fort. It says on the map that it takes aprx. 24 hours but it actually takes about 28 with all the stops that happen. We usually drive about 10 hours and then stop. The girls actually do quite well on the ride. We have a DVD in the car, and we bring activity books, reading books, gameboys, etc. We usually stop periodically too to use the bathroom and stretch the legs, that seems to help. Though, I am really hoping that the 3rd High School Musical isn't out when we go because I will tell you, by the time we hit the fort last year I was in "Get Ya Head In The Game" hell. I swear the 13 other movies we had with us didn't even exist!

Lucky Duck!! I would be at Disney 24-7 if I lived that close Do you do a lot of camping there over the year? That would be a dream,,, I'm so jealous!

We live near Buffalo, NY, the drive takes 18-19 hours(if DH doesn't get lost while I'm napping ).We're planning on driving straight through this time, if I end up having to work for a few hours the day we leave.
