How Far Did We Walk

We are always wondering how far we walk while at WDW. We tracked it this year using our Fit Bits as well as the Health App on our Iphone. I have listed all our data here. The second set of numbers are my wife's and the first set are mine. Some interesting results but its consistent that women consistently register fewer steps then men!! But either way a lot of walking and miles.

Wow this is confusing!! but to clarify: Date, Fit Bit Steps, Fit Bit Miles, Iphone Steps, Iphone Miles. I apologize this was so poorly done!!!

Very interesting. I will be testing this out myself in a month. I always thought WDW would have MORE walking than DL being that MK is like double or triple the size. However, I put 25,000 steps on my fitbit that last time I was at DL.

I looked at your numbers and was amazed, on our trip last year 6 park days .......... 133,400 steps !!! I guess our plans to attack the parks are pretty similar.

Our epcot day was what I would consider very leisurely and no backtracking. We walked 4 miles that day.

Our MK day we did a lot of walking and backtracking. We walked just over 8 miles that day.

My last trip I was averaging around 36k steps a day.

Even the "rest" days at Disney Springs I was hitting mid 20ks

That's more of what I am expecting. But we are planning on taking this trip a little easier, so maybe we won't hit that.

Yeah we roughly averaged 5-6 km a day... a bit more than 3.5 miles... although it was WAY more if you count all the steps to and from the bus stops, the resort, etc.

Our lowest was 5.something miles & that was arrival day. Most was 8 miles. A few were 7.something - so close to 8!! Was less overall than I expected but had some with us that slowed us down! :rotfl2:

25,000 is about what I averaged each day of our last trip to Disneyland. But, that does include 1-2 trips per day through Downtown Disney back to Disneyland Hotel. Lots of walking...

When we went for 4 1/2 days in January we were close to almost 10 miles per day. I think the shorter the trip - the more you try to pack in - so, the more you walk. And, this was with taking long afternoon breaks every day.

never used a fitbit but I paid attention with other devices on rides once and many register as if your taking steps. DL has many more rides and might be the source for this.

Using a step counter, we seemed to be walking 10+ miles/day. As a runner I knew that this was not right - that it was too high. So I used my Garmin on one trip and my Garmin indicated that we were walking half that distance - roughly 5 miles/day. Lots of steps, but apparently lots of smaller steps and shuffling.

Good point! That is very true. Through crowds you are taking much smaller steps than your full walking stride.

We walked from 4 to 5 miles each day when we went to WDW last November.

Of course we planned everything in advance to keep walking to a minimum and not backtrack.

Generally fitbit can recognize speed, and it knows you are going to fast to be walking, so it generally won't count them. Sometimes I can't get it to count even when I'm pushing a stroller because my hands aren't moving in the typical walking motion. Fitbit has a pretty strong sensitivity setting, especially since I wear it on my dominant wrist and it is setup in the setting to be aware of them and count movements far less frequently.

If i didn't hit 20-25k during my day at the park I'd go out and walk the boardwalk this past trip.

For perspective, at Disney I averaged: 22,209
Walking the Vegas Strip, I averaged: 25k
On a normal day I usually walk about 10k steps.

In our household, the woman puts in more steps than the man. :)

We also found that we put on more steps when we were at DL than what we do at WDW. I think it's because we were hitting every nook and cranny trying to see everything while we were at DL. Whereas at WDW, we've been there many times now, so we aren't trying to see everything during our visit.
