from the parks. The reason I ask is that we are going to have to book a pool home out there. Our '09 trip will have be super budget and for what we want to pay we are only seeing those prices in clermont and Davenport. Realistically how long will it take us to get to parks?

I stayed in Glenbrook, a development off 27 just a bit north of the 192/27 interchange, for my first trip. I'd estimate the one-way trip from there to the parks was about 30 minutes.

Our experience: that would be okay if you were just going to go to the parks and back once each day. If you want to take mid-day breaks, it's too far IMO. We got a good deal there (it was my Uncle's house, so he gave us the "family discount") but for all of our subsequent trips, we've been willing to pay more to be closer.

A housing addition in "Clermont" could be anywhere near where 192 connects with 27 all the way up to the actual town (which is about 10-12 miles N of 192). Davenport is in the opposite direction. If you have the addresses of different houses, do a Mapquest to see exactly where it is. You could be very close to 192 or 12 miles up the road.

Either way, if the price is right go for it. Either area is generally less congested than the immediate WDW area. You will also have alternatives to dining on site, and in the WDW area where prices can be inflated. Same for grocery stores, and Walmarts. Those further away from WDW are less expensive.

The routes to WDW are fairly direct, and although 27 can get backed up (as can west 192) it's still a fairly easy trek to the attraction area.

Plus, you can take the "back way in" if you know the route. That can save some time and get you out of traffic. using an alternate route will, of course depend upon the exact location of your villa.

I can get to the Disney parks area in around 12/13 mins usually from my home near the 192/27 junction and regularly use Westside Blvd and 192 then either 429 or Sherberth depending on where I am heading.

This is pretty accurate. We have stayed on 27 near the 192 junction and that is about what it takes. The few times we timed it, it took about 10 minutes to get to the Sherbeth Road shortcut which is right near where Windsor Hills and Windsor Palms (some of the closest developments). That being said, I always budget a minimum of 20-25 minutes of travel time just to be on the safe side. Definitely check the location and compare it to where the junction is though. There are some developments pretty far in either direction. Feel free to ask about specific developments here. Some of us may have stayed there.

Highland Reserve is one community that I am seeing the most that fits into our budget.

My home is just a little north of HR so my timings should apply to you if you stay there. If you want the directions using Westside just ask

Last year we stayed in Sandy Ridge (in Davenport) and will be staying there again this year. We thought the drive was a piece of cake. Once you get on I-4, Disney's exit is the very next exit. You don't have to deal with all the red lights so you can get there in no time flat.

If I remember right it took about 10 minutes to get to the Disney Exit and then maybe another 10 to get into Magic Kingdom's parking lot.

If you find yourself on west 192, Black Lake Road is a better alternative than Sherberth. It runs parallel to 192 and "t"s into Sherberth, where you would then take a left to get to Disney property (the approach to AKL).

The trouble with Black Lake is the turning from there onto Sherberth -it is a bit blind .

I stay in Davenport each time I visit WDW. It is a quite place to be and yet has all the amenities that one needs, and not far from 192. We are going down in Dec and are staying at Terrace Ridge over in the Champions Gate area. It is about 12 miles from WDW, about a 15 minute drive. No matter where you stay you will have a great vacation. Have fun deciding.

I was just looking at google maps---there is now an access road between Black Lake and Osceola. Is that a gated backstage route, or is it open to guest traffic?

Thanks for all the help. Hey I know that any day on vacation is a good day. I am asking because I will have a three month old newborn this time around. From past experience we stayed at Emerald Island, Mystic Dunes, Westgate places like that there were closer. I am feeling more confident that we will be able to come back home and rest and then go back in the evening. I just did not want to be so far out that we would feel like we had to do everything and come back home dog tired with 5 cranky kids. It sounds like it is only 10-20 minute drive then it will be worth it for us to come back and recharge before the evening.

Are these area's near Orange Tree? It sounds like it, but I'm unsure. We also had to go a little farther to fit it in the budget, but I think we will try to come home mid-day anyway before heading back in the evenings too. Hopefully since we are going in Jan. it will work out ok!

This is why I would stay in Davenport over Clermont. With Clermont if you are on 192 you get alot of lights, where in Davenport you can use the highway to avoid lights.

I use to live 3 miles off of the Champions Gate exit near Sandy Ridge and my commute was just what this person said there drive to WDW was, 10 mins to property and 10 mins to the parking lot. Its alot easier imo then if I had to use 192. Also like another person said Clermont can run from 192 up about 20 miles north, so definetly map it if you are thinking of Clermont.

I stayed in Clermont and, depending on lights and traffic, it took us 10-15 minutes to get to WDW. We stayed right at the junction of 192/27 in a subdivision called Clear Creek. Very close to a super Walmart, which was great for groceries. This is the home we rented and were very happy with it:

Highland Reserve is one community that I am seeing the most that fits into our budget.

We stayed at Regal Palms which was across the street from Highland Reserve. You are very close to the junction of 27 and 192, which makes getting to the parks a breeze using the Sherbeth Road shortcut. You are also very close to Publix, Applebees, a Chinese food place and a pizza place (they are at the end of the street) which is convenient. There is also a Wal Mart less than a mile north of the 27 - 192 junction. Overall, I think you will be happy with the location. The extra 10 minutes drive is likely worth the money you are saving.

Glad to know we will be so close to restaurants and shopping. We are feeling much better with our choice. Thanks Disers for helping me plan our vacation.
