How far apart are the THV?

OK, so I am really interested in the idea of the THV for our trip next August...I'm just not sold on that bunk bed room yet. It would be nice if they even have the bottom bunk be a double size bed. Not so practical for 3 couples and 2 kids. It kinda forces one couple onto the sleep sofa.

ANYWAY, I caught a glimpse once of one of the old units from the boat going between OKW & DTD. Because of the woods I couldn't see much & it was hard to get a good idea of the spacing between them. How far away do we think they will be from the restaurants & main pool etc. at SSR? Will it be more than a 5 or 10 min. walk? Does anybody know of an overhead type of aerial map that would show more about the THV area in general in relationship to SSR? I've seen posts saying the point charts will be the same as a 2 bedroom at SSR, that there will be a quiet pool, a bus stop & a boat dock...but how much walking are we talking about between the units and SSR?? Will there be a restaurant of some sort over there? The renderings look cute but they may be a bit too secluded for us if we have my parents with us.:confused3

We still have not received ANY communications from DVC on this or on BLT. I'm getting a bit peeved with them.

How is it we know they will be open for ressies on Feb 1 or Feb 8 or whatever?

These three units are behind the last building over at Grandstand (our room was 9832). Since there are no people or golf carts on the pathway it is hard to tell just how far apart they are but it really didn't seem to be great distances. The walk from there to the main pool would be about 5-10 minutes. I think there are others that will be another 5-10 minutes walk away from the main areas. there is another thread that has the overhead views of the area.

When walking from OKW to DTD, I saw a few of the treehouses from the walkway. So at least some of them are only moments from DTD. I have actually seen an aerial layout on one of the other threads but I forget where now.
I am actually hoping for the seclusion. To me, that is it's biggest advantage! And the cool deck!

I agree that I'm interested in the seclusion. I've enjoyed all of my stays at the Ft. Wilderness cabins so I'm thrilled for THV.

HOWEVER, next Sept I'll be going w/ myself, DH, our two little boys, sister, BIL, their 2 year old, and my mother and her boyfriend. The THV is where i'm aiming to stay and I agree that its a bit odd that we'll have to have one couple sleeping on the couch but OH WELL!!! My mom and her boyfriend are a bit flakey anyways so I dont want to adjust my plans and my points around what they say they're going to do, because most of the time they dont do what they say. Which would make THV a perfect fit........adults in their own rooms, three kids in their own room (2 on bunk beds and one in a crib)

I'm sure it would be very tranquil....I'm just thinking about all of the additional walking involved in going to eat (we don't cook in other than breakfast) or walking to the pool after a few long days in the parks. That was one of the things we disliked about OKW - we did not enjoy the 10 minute schlep up to the main pool. Then by the time we schlepped BACK to our unit after the pool we were all hot & sweaty again already. I am not sure that it will be a good plan for older, retired folks.

We've actually never stayed at SSR (yet) so I am not familiar with the layout of the property over there...that's why I was hoping to find this aerial map of everything... For the points involved we may end up in multiple studios somewhere as opposed to trying this out...

I'm not sure if this will work but here is a link showing an aerial view of the original treehouses. If you move the map east you can see SSR. If you fool with the road, bird's eye and aerial views & zoom in and out you can get a pretty good idea of how close everything is to one another. I think it will be at least a ten minute walk to the Carriage House but they will have boat service so you won't have to walk.

I can't wait to stay in one of these!

OK - I tried the link and it takes you to the Beach Club but if you navigate east you can find SSR!

I have the same concerns, and started this post a couple days ago. We will have my parents with us in Jan, and with 3 little ones, we don't feel like walking more than we already do at the parks. I think we may try to book at OKW HH section rather than the THV for that trip unless we change out minds when we are there in May and can check them out.

Thanks - the maps posted on the other thread were helpful (Groverdog - I could not navigate your link very well).... Since I am not familiar with SSR can somebody tell me where the main pool / restaurants are at SSR (Congress, Carriage or Carousel)? What and where is this Grandstand area I see mentioned sometimes? I know DS will want to check out whatever the best pool might be!

Here's a map of SSR. The restaurant/main pool/spa/check-in are closest to the Springs section.

This map shows all the sections - just check the key at the bottom. We enjoyed our stay in the Springs - we liked being so close to the central hub. However, I understand the Springs has the last pick-up for the bus and some people complain about that. We had a car during our trip and didn't use the buses.
