how far ahead should you buy your park tickets?

We are traveling in April 2017. I am watching the ticket prices on undercover tourist for any good deals. I am wondering is there a time frame when you should have your tickets purchased and linked to your account prior to your trip? Does it matter for making FP selections? We do have resort reservations so will have the 60 day FP selection.

In order to book FP, you need to have a ticket linked. So by the 60-day mark you want to have tickets in your MDE. If you purchase through a reseller, it takes 1-3 days, so be sure you purchase with enough time to link them up and deal with any potential ticket issues before that 60 day FP window opens up.

You have admission linked to MDE in order to make advance FP+ selections. So you would want them purchased & linked more than 60 days prior to check-in when staying on-property.

Another consideration is if there's a price increase in the offing. I've bought the better part of a year in advance to beat the hike.

I buy them after booking airfare so I know when I'm arriving and leaving and can plan based off that

As everyone said, make sure you have them linked at least 61 days prior so you can make FP+ at the 60 day mark. In terms of when to buy them, it depends on how far in advance you want to lay out the cash. I purchased a ticket for my DS9 almost a year ago before the last price increase and we aren't using it until this December. I knew we would eventually use it, so it wasn't a waste of money, but it has been sitting in MDE this whole time.

Generally I buy mine around 6 months ahead of time, but as long as you buy before the 60 day mark for FP+ you should be fine.

It's not like buying airline tickets or car rental. The prices don't fluctuate. You won't get much of "a good deal". Prices will not go down. They may go up, slightly.
Buy them sooner rather than later. No advantage to waiting.

You should have bought them before SW Vacations closed the loophole on their website.

I know disney prices will not change any, but i thought that sometimes though mouse savers and undercover tourist there are some deals. It looks like right now there is a $20 statement credit for American Express card users for purchasing tickets. It's a little something.

Parksavers.com is also another discount ticket seller with competitive pricing.

Southwest and United recently had discounted tickets - now they are only available in a travel package.

You may want to "Watch" the Budget Board as ticket deals are posted there.

This is the first time we have bought our tickets in advance (lucky enough to take advantage of the United deal). We usually purchase them on day one at MK. What is the deal with choosing FP at the "60 days"?

If you're staying on property, you can book FPs when you're 60 days out from your arrival date.

Yes. You can book 30 days out from each park day.

Moving the thread to the FP subforum.
I thought it was 60 days for offsite. 180 for onsite! I could be wrong, I only did that once a year or so ago when I stayed offsite and I did that just 9 days out. Maybe it's just 180 for ADR's. Don't do those either.

And that's why mesaboy2 authored the FP FAQ thread. ;)

Onsite = 60 day FP booking window for all onsite days

Offsite = 30 day FP booking window @ 30 days out from each park day

ADR = we don't care because this is the FP subforum (180 days) ;)
