How far ahead do you book your WDW resort?

Waiting for the DVC home resort to open 11 months prior to our trip in 2020. We stay only a day or two before going on a DCL cruise. What is SWGE and when is the opening date?

We book fully refundable rooms as far out as possible, at a resort and price we can live with. Then we watch for discounts and try to rebook or trade up.

No you're not. You can only book online until December 31st. Once they release the rack rates for 2020, probably June or July, you'll be able to book most of 2020 online. You can book a room only via phone up to 499 days out.

In all of my WDW trips I have ALWAYS booked after the discounts are available, usually 2-6 months prior to the trip, unless it's a bounceback.

I select resort and room based on what has a discount. Works great!

For example, booked our March-April 2019 trip in October, after discounts came out.
Booked our May and July 2019 trips in January, when AP rates came out.
Planning at least one trip after SWGE opens, sometime between September and December. Haven't booked it yet because discounts are not out and I don't know what will work best with discounts

When we go in January, we wait until the packages are released so we book around 6/7 months out.
The past 2 bookings were for September so I've booked almost a year out and then modified or cancelled/rebooked when deals are released. I like just knowing that I have a reservation on the books. Helps me get through the year aha.

We book when we decide to go or immediately after a discount is released. We've booked 2-8 months out.
