How far ahead can points be borrowed??

Our use year is April and we have already borrowed most of our 2007 use year points for an upcoming trip in December 2006. Now we have friends that are fellow DVC'ers that want to do a trip in October 2007.

My question is: do I have to wait until April 2007 before I can borrow points from the 2008 use year (that puts us within 6 months of our trip)?

I know the easy solution is to buy more points but we are not ready to do that quite yet.

Points may only be borrowed when actually making a reservation. You may make a reservation 11 months ahead at your home resort. If 11 months will fall into your next Use Year, you may borrow points from the following Use Year to make that reservation.

For example, if your Use Year is April and you wish to make a reservation for October, 2007 - you can make that reservation in November, 2006 and may borrow points from your April 2008 Use Year at that time. You may borrow ahead a year from the Use Year the reservation will fall into.

If you wanted to make a reservtaion right now for May, 2007- you could borrow your 2008 points right now to make that reservation.

Borrowing is a difficult concept at times, especially when dates are 2 Use Years away.

Doc~ Just to clarify...I have a Dec. use year but only have 10 points remaining in my 06 use year...I want to make a ressie for Jan 07 which I will have to borrow from my 07 points to do. What you are saying is that I can do this now and not have to wait until Dec to borrow those points into my 06 use year?

All points use is based on date of stay, not when you make the reservation. A January 2007 stay would be in your December 2006 use year, so you could borrow 2007 points regardless of when you make the reservation. You could have borrowed 2007 points last February for a January 2007 stay at your home resort.

I'm pretty sure that when you go to the DVC web site it will tell you what reservations you can make when and what points are available for what years.
