I don't understand the whole renting thing/trade/transfer that well.....so how does it work if you have x amt. of nights at a DVC resort, you want to rent some points to go with that ressie to extend your stay? What are the options? thanks

You have two options, you can have another member transfer points into your account, and make the reservation youself or you can have the other member make the reservation for you then link your reservation and the rented reservation.

1. You could have another member reserve a room and you would pay them for the reservation. You could also ask that they link the resrevation numbers together so you don't have to change rooms.

2. You could ask for a transfer of the points into your account and then they are yours to use as you see fit. If you do this you need to make certain that the points you get will work for the time frame you wish to use them and at the resort you are staying at. Transferred points keep their original resort and UY so if you are reserving before the 7 month mark you need to have the points from the resort you wish to resrve at. You can only have one transfer in or out each UY so if you are only looking for a small number of points it may be had to find someone to do a transfer unless they have only a certain number they would not be able to use and are willing to use their one transfer to do it.

3. Your other option is to borrow points from your next year if you have not already done so.

I am in a similar situation as the OP. I was told that even if two reservations are linked, there is no guarantee that you won't have to switch rooms. This would be a concern of mine as I have no idea how often they actually require guests to change rooms. I imagine they will do all they can to keep guests in the same room. It would also save on mousekeeping.

WOW really? I did borrow points when I decided to add a 7th night to BCV ressie. I would probably only do the rent/transfer thing if I needed a large sum of points. I will keep this in mind for next year's trip since I will only have 229 points for next summer's trip. :goodvibes

If the 2 linked reservations are for the same type room, you should not have to move. They will give you keys for the entire stay, not split. The thing you have to be careful is that they are in fact the same type room. For example, dedicated vs lockoff or view locations (BWV/AKV).
