Hi,

I understand that at CBR I can put no more than $1000 on my room key for food and shops, but how does it exactly work and can you use the room key at all Disney resturants and shops.

I believe you just have to provide your resort with a valid credit card and then you use your room key as a charge card at all Disney restaurants and shops. The only thing I'm not sure of is if you can use them at food carts and things like that. I know that they want to make it so that you can but I don't know if it's at that point now.

Hippychickali,

Thanks. I'm actually giving CBR $1000 in travelers checks to put on my key. I called them today and asked and they said that travelers checks would be fine.

We charged to our room at a food cart in AK when we bought frozen drinks. It's handy and I'm sure that's why they do it!! :)

As long as they have an electronic cash register, you can use your room key. If they just use a cash box (like at an ice cream cart) you can't.

DebbieB,

I will have a little cash on me, but will charge everything I can on my room key.

Almost all of the outdoor food carts have the ability now to charge to the room accounts. With the addition of the MYW dining packages and "Snacks" it was necessary to get the outdoor carts set up for room charging. So you can now use your room key for things like Ice cream, churros, pretzels, popcorn, etc. (at the outdoor carts)

The limits vary by resort level - Value is $500, Moderate $1000, Deluxe is $1500.

It's good to hear that you can now make better use of this convenience by charging things at food carts.

I'll be staying at a value resort and my limit, I guess, is $500. At the end of the day, can I go pay that off to get $500 more? I'm not sure if it makes sense the way I am asking it but does anyone know what I mean?

Hippychickali,

I understand. What you are going to do is if you use $100 of the $500, you will go to the desk at night and pay off the $100, so you have a fresh $500 to work with the next day.

When you hit your limit, they simply charge that amount to your credit card and you start over with a new limit. There is no need to go by the desk and ask them to start it over.

Your resort will leave a message on your room phone when you get close to your limit. You can tell them to push those charges through to your card whenever you want. You can call the front desk to do this and don't have to go in person unless you are paying by cash. They will put on itemized print out under your door or you can pick one up at the front desk.

I guess this is another good reason to stay onsite. It allows you the ability to worry about other things then making sure you have enough cash with you.

Credit Card or Cash. I usually bring cash since we drive down and just give it to them. I dont know what the limit is, but I usually put down between 1000 to 1500 in cash.

I know its crazy that much cash around, but hey I go from my house to Disney and check in, so really the cash is pretty much safe, you could use traverlers checks if you wish as well, you do not need to use a CC.

Typically what happens is between 2-5am, the computers will go through, and if you're near your limit, it will automatically take payment from the credit card on file. The next day, you will have a renewed charging limit.

If you should happen to exceed your limit during the day, before the computer has gone through and taken payment, your card may be declined. All you have to do is have the cashier give a call to the resort, they will take payment right then, and you'll be all set.

If you would like to pay off your balance with cash or traveler's cheques, you may do so either in advance (which would set up a debit account), or prior to midnight, before the computer takes payment.

Thats what I understood when we checked in....but it happened that we reached the limit and could not pay with the card. I asked at the front desk and they told me I have to tell them to charge the credit card and then you get the limit again.

Never got a phonecall :-( had to go the front desk like written in the other post...okay perhaps it was cause we stayed at a value resort ?

Just so you know, you can have any of the merchandise shops call the front desk for you, or you can call them yourself, and they can do the charge that way. This way, you don't need to waste time waiting in line and going to the actual front desk.

How does it work if you dont spent the whole amount? Do you get it back in cash when checking out?

And what is the difference to do it that way instead of tranfer the money to your creditcard and let it be charged then?

If you put down cash, you will be using it as a Debit Account. Any money left over will be refunded in the same manner that it was placed on. (ie: TC/Cash for cash, CC for CC, etc)

If you place a credit card on file, and use it as a charge account, you will be given a line of credit. When you reach that line of credit, the card is charged at that point. This is how 99% of all guests do it.
