How everyone pronounces pecan and carmel

I live in Northern Indiana and the differences are vast among the state. If you are from Michigan just a few miles north you put an S on words like Walmart and Kmart and Target.

If you live south of Indy you have southern draw.

We say purse - not pocket book

Drink Pop - not soda

And our state flower the peony in the north is ~pee a knee~ on the south its pee Oh nee.

Funny, this Northeasterner calls it a PEE-nee. lol

One they didn't have on here was the word "wash." I've heard people pronounce it "worsh." Anybody know what are says, "worsh?"

My Dad (born and raised in Albany NY) said "warsh" and "thee ATE er" (theater).

No idea where that came from

I grew up in central Illinois, which is very divided. People "worshed" their cars; my family drank "pop" or (very rarely) "soda pop;" everyone was "you guys;" I wasn't very fond of "pee-can" pie; we used "carts" at the store; "Sell" and "sale" were two different words; and we used a "dolly" to move heavy items.

Now, I live in North Carolina (southern piedmont area). People "wash" their cars; we drink "soda;" everyone is "y'all" (often misspelled as "ya'll"); I'm still not fond of "puh-cahn" pie; we shop with "buggies;" "Sell" and "sale" seem to be interchangeable; and we use "hand-trucks" to move heavy items.

One of my DDs teachers said dawll for doll and she had no idea what she was talking about. Lol. One day she came home and said mom what's a baby dawll (like towel)
