How essential is a golf cart?

Hi - we just booked our first stay at a Cabin at FW in early May. It will be DH, me (just found out I will be pregnant) and our 4.5 yo twins.

We will not have a rental car, but grandpa is local and will be joining us at some of the parks. I was not intending to rent a golf cart, but the pregnancy news has me rethinking this.

In your opinion - how important is it to have one?

TIA!

It depends. If you are going to spending lots of time at the campground using the services and amenities and activities there, then a golf cart is most helpful to get to the pool, get to the campfire and movie, go looping an exploring, etc.

If you are going to be spending lots of time at the parks, then a golf cart is just a luxury. There are internal buses that run throughout the campground that will pick you up near your loop entrance and take you to the Settlement Depot, where you then take a short stroll to the marina to take a boat to Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, or Wilderness Lodge

or you can catch a bus to the Outpost Depot, where you can catch another bus to any other destination at Disney World.

...but it's a really, really fun luxury. :upsidedow

And if the cost of renting from Disney is part of your decision, there is at least one off-site rental company that is still able to deliver to the Fort that is a TON less expensive for a weekly rental. Info is in THIS THREAD.

Congrats on the pregnancy!!!! I would ask for a cabin close to a bus stop and tell them it is because you are pregnant. You really won't have much further to walk then than if you had a golf cart. I was there when I was pregnant and we were camping in a popup. We did not get close to a bus stop. My priority was close to a bathroom. ;)

How far along will you be and how active are you when you are pregnant? You may consider an ECV. There is a lot of walking in the parks. On our trip, we wound up renting a wheelchair in the parks the last couple of days as I was TIRED!!! Of course, we had several older kids to help pushing stroller and me. I assume your dh would be pushing your twins in a stroller.

Happy Camping!!

And you can always just rent one for your "campground" days, so you don't have to pay for it on your "park" days, when it's just going to sit in the parking lot anyway.

We tend to do more "parks" at the start of a trip, and more "campground" time at the end, so we just get the cart for the end of our stay. Your 4.5 year olds will LOVE it!

As others said it is not totally necessary and could be considered a luxury because of Disney transportation within the campground BUT and here is the big BUT... As good as the transportation is, you still have to wait and there is nothing worse (in my opinion) at the end of a long hot tiring day in the crowded parks (especially with kids and being tired due to pregnancy anyway) than to have to wait for a bus only to find its full then wait for another one and then ride around until you finally get off at the stop closest to your loop then the long walk from the stop to the cabin or campsite. If you had a golf cart you might already be snug in your bed by the time the bus got you "home".

Thanks!

I will be about 24 weeks along (like I said, I just found out :) ). I honestly don't know how I active I will be since I am assuming this will be a singleton and my last pregnancy was with twins (knock on wood ;) ) Our tentative plan is to tour the parks early in the mornings and leave after lunch (ish) and play at FW in the afternoons and evenings. I am hoping grandpa will meet us at some of the parks to tour and then drive us back to the resort. We do have early (before rd) breakfast adrs at AK one morning - I assume the buses will be running in time for that?

If I did want to request a Cabin by a bus stop, do I call now and request that or at check in? I didn't make any requests when I made reservations...?

TIA!

Like BradyBiz said, it is REALLY REALLY FUN, so if you can afford it, I'd rent one.
My DW and I enjoyed it so much that we came home and bought one,,now we bring it to the Fort with us. Great fun :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure DH would be happy if we never went into any of the parks and just stayed at the Fort and drove the cart around. :rotfl:

Okay - I'm convinced :) (and so is dh)

Do most people prefer the off site rental (Kenny from Tee Time) or is there a reason to go with the WDW rentals?

Thanks again!

We'll be there in about a week and myself being about 27 weeks pregnant decided to rent one! With walking around the parks all day the last thing I want to worry about is walking/bussing when we get back to the resort. It's a luxury, but worth it to me!

We will never go without a golf cart again! it is so helpful especially when you have small children. We used it everyday to go to the marina and the outposts. I have been to Disney a few times pregnant (only 2 children but we go a few times a year) and no matter how good of a shape you are in it is difficult. And you will have 2 little ones.

We got our from Kenny at Tee Times for only 150 a week and it was the best money we spent. I would certainly do it if it is within your budget.

Congrats and enjoy!!

Did y'all have it on your last trip or did you just buy the cart?

Maybe it's just when we go, but it's been three or four 4th of Julys, like 6 Xmas, and one Halloween,Xsgivig and I'm having a hard time remembering any internal bus not having enough room for all passengers.

Yep, it was blue with a Fort plate on the front, a chrome Mickey head on the back bumper and a few Disney character stickers all around.

Not sure how I missed the cart it sounds cute.

We did have it on our last trip,,you just didn't see us drive up at TE.

So, how's that beautiful baby doing ?

She is great no trouble been playing with her all morning. Thanks for asking.

Oooh we are less than a month out... any chance of renting a cart with this short notice? I just tried calling but they are closed for the night....

I should try tee time too?? (off to read that thread)

We are staying the in cabins and are very excited. It would be nice to skip the additional walking around camp, plus cruising around the loops would be fun!!
