How easy is it to get last minute reservations in the summer?

Hello, I am now waitlisted for HH for the end of July and want to wait awhile hoping to get in. My questions is if I can't get HH will I be able to get a room at WDW if I wait till July? We will going Sunday July 29th to Sat Aug 2nd. Has anyone made last minute plans for the summer without a problem. My home resort is SSR (which I want to stay at) but will take anything. Thanks, Gina

We had to switch some reservations around last year during those exact dates because DD broke her arm less than a week before we were heading to VB. The beach just is not much fun if you can't swim, so we wanted to switch to Disney. We had a choice of OKW or SSR less than a week out.
