How easy is it to change resorts?

We have booked for SSR (our first trip!) for 7 nights from 5th October 2008, then going on the Wonder Cruise for 4 nights, then back to SSR for 2 nights (16 / 17 th October) before flying back home - we booked at the 11 month window.

All this talk on DISboards about VWL has made me wonder whether I should see if I could change our studio at SSR for VWL for the last 2 nights as I'd really like to try it (sounds like the Grand Californian which we loved when we stayed there last year). Just a bit scared that I might lose my 2 SSR nights and have nothing. I have realised that it is past the 7 month window now so maybe I should just sit tight this year and try to swap next year instead.

Has anyone had experience of swapping resorts? How easy was it to do? (I realise that October is F&W so maybe that might influence things).

What would you do?

Thanks again!

I would call and check on availability if there is plenty then cancel and rebook. Just be careful though if there are few rooms while cancelling to free up points for the new ressie you may lose it and not have the original one!

I was really dubious about this but changed our October SSR booking to BWV without any hassle. I had to use a few more points but the guys on the end of the phone couldn't be more helpful! Give it a go! :thumbsup2

If you're doing it on DVC points just give member services a ring and tell them you would like to swap your 2 SSR nights for VWL, if there is availability they will swap the reservation for you no problems. They won't cancel one until they have the other one secured so you won't be without somewhere to stay.

As others have said go for it.

Every CM that I have spoken too have only been very happy to help me with all my changes.

I hope you manage to get to stay at VWL, it's a lovely resort.

Thanks for all your helpful replies.

I rang and there is only 1 night available for VWL (and therefore would have to waitlist the other night). I'm not sure what waitlisting involves (this is our first year of ownership) so said I would stay with our reservation at SSR.

Can anyone explain how waitlisting works?

waitlist is as it sounds, you go on a list and wait till the room you require comes up.have done it a few times.the sooner you go on it the better as the earler ones get priority.we waitlisted for 2 night at BCV inaug and got them quick. Its easyer if its for one night like your reqireing as its easyer to fill

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the waitlist comes through for you:thumbsup2

Jacqui, just wanted to say that is not necessarily true - if you don't have the DVC points available, you wouldn't be able to have both booked at the same time, the system will just not let you. You would have to cancel one to free up the points before you could book the other.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear.

I'd always book a 7 month reservation on a day by day basis so I'd call for the first day and if it's available MS will cancel my original resort and book the new one at the same time. I'd do this day by day until my reservation was complete. Obviously if one day wasn't available you'd decide if you wanted to go on a wait list
