How early to trade out to RCI?

I'm gifting as a wedding present a resort stay to my sister of my yearly points. But they haven't decided when they are going to honeymoon yet. They are thinking in December but don't know the week. And they are thinking of going RCI. They are thinking Central America resort. What is the latest I should book for them? Have many people traded out to RCI since it's become available?

I did the same thing for my niece. She wanted a specific resort(all-inclusive) for a specific week. Luckily, it was one of the available weeks. If she can be flexible, there isn't as much of a problem. Also, be aware that if it's an all-inclusive resort, there are additional fees(sometimes there is an additional fee anyway). You also usually have to purchase a "guest certificate" to the tune of around $60 to gift it to another party. You're doing a very nice thing!
