How early should we check in?

We are going from Disney to Universal for 2 days/1 night (8/8). How early should we get to the hotel to get our room keys for FOTL so we can get to the park for early entry? I have been to Universal many times but this is the 1st time for only 2 days. I want to get there for early entry for Olivanders and FJ on the 1st day since I will be taking nieces and nephews who have never been there. Are the front desks crowded early with other people doing the same thing? I know they will text me later when the room is ready but I don't know how much time to allow for check in.

if you want to use early entry on aug 8th, check into the hotel at 6:45 - 7:00am


don't know if this is your first time staying onsite or if you're a regular there.
i'm guessing you are not new at this as you mentioned you get a text when your room is ready.

it can take a newbie about 15 minutes to check in as the TM will go thru hotel policies and check in with you.

all in your group will receive the hotel key.
from there, go to the hotel kiosk to have express passes made.
front desk will give you a brochure that explains this.
and, they usually will tell you about where you go to create the express pass.


do have your luggage held at valet as your room probably won't be ready.


if you check in at 7:00, it will probably be about 7:25 at this point.

walk to the park or take the water taxi.
if there are a lot of peeps waiting for the water taxi, it would/could be quicker for you to walk to the park.


early august still has crowds so get in line and wait until it opens.
many times they will start letting the onsite guests in 15 minutes early..


the earliest i have checked in was after 6:00 am.
yea, i'm nuts.


you will start to see lines at the check in around 8:30.
usually you will see about 2 working the front desk at that time period.

more TM's will be working later when more guests are arriving to check in.

Can I get my annual pass at the hotel, or do I have to get them at one of the parks? We're also planning to check in around 7 AM the day we arrive. My daughter already has her ticket, so we just need our express passes and my ap.

As long as it isn't a Florida pass, it can be picked up at the ticket kiosks in the hotel. These aren't the same as the express pass kiosks.

Thank you, We will be staying at the RPR. I have stayed onsite before and I have been on these forums many times. I usually start coming here about a month before I travel and stay on for two weeks after to answer any questions. This year I simply could not remember my username and password. I had changed my email address so I could not retrieve it. I emailed the administrators to see if I could retrieve my old account but they never answered me. So I just gave up and started a new account. I used to go by TANK.
