How early is too early (to start planning)?

I'm going to turn 30 in January 2011, and I have decided I want to go to WDW. I've never been and it's a dream vacation for me, so I figure 30 is a good time to do it! It will just be my wife and I traveling, we don't have any kids.

So...how early is too early to start planning? The main difficulty I have run into is that even 2010 pricing isn't available yet. If I could price some January 2010 options, I would have a vague idea of what costs might look like, but so far I can't even get that! When do they open up the next year's pricing info?

What planning can I do meanwhile? I know it's a long way away, but we probably can't afford a vacation between now and then, so it's what I'm excited about in terms of travel.

I don't think there's ever a time when I'm NOT planning. That said, you should expect a small price jump each year, but its not terribly bad. You can look at menues online and at food pictures on the restaurant forums to help plan your meals. You can also decide which hotels interest you by looking at a plethora of photos online. There are lots of things for a first timer to become aquainted with and its good that you're giving yourself plenty of time to think each and every little thing over.

It's never too early to start planning . That's where the fun actually starts. There's a bunch of information on the web to help you there. Both in the Disney official websites, as well as other guides and forums.

I always plan around a budget. I set up a cap and try to get as much fun as I can for under that. Lately it has been making sense to me to stay in a Disney resort; since you can forgo driving to the hotel at the end of the day, and specially if you can get the free dining plan.

I started planning our next trip in March of this year. We are going Dec 05 - 10 2010. I can book my room only reservation at the end of July and package prices come out early August. I will book the package as soon as the prices come out. This way I can have the whole trip paid for before we go. I have spent the time reading the different boards so I will have an idea of where we want to eat etc. We already know we will stay at the Poly, just can't decide whether to stay club level or not.

So go ahead and start planning.

I don't think it is ever too early to start planning, especially if you have never been before. We have already begun to plan our Christmas/New Year 2010/11 trip. Although we don't know the dates we are going yet (depends on school holidays as we are teachers) we have already discussed with our best friends who we travel with which off site attractions we want to include in the trip and a few restaurants we want to eat at too. Oh and what tours we will be doing when we are there.
If I were you I would do a lot of research, decide where you want to stay, what places you want to visit and research how many days you should allow for this (both in WDW and other parks) so then you can decide how many days you will need.

the day I got off the plane from our trip to Italy I was planning my solo trip to orlando
