How early in advance to purchase Disney tickets/reservations

Possibly planning a trip the week of October 16th and wondering approximately how early in advance we will need to purchase Disney tickets and make reservations. I believe that tickets are non-refundable so don't want to purchase too early in case of any trip changes/cancellations. Thanks so much!

October is busy. buy your tickets (thing 1) and then make your park reservations (thing 2) Do it asap. Good luck.

Disney in general is busy this year. I would recommend doing it sooner than later.

If you need to cancel your trip you can use your tickets at a later date although you may be required to pay an additional charge if the price of the ticket has gone up since you purchased it.

Are you planning to stay on site?
If so, book a package that includes room and tickets.
This is refundable, both, up to 30 days, when it has to be paid in full
And even then I believe there is a refund policy of some sort but I'm not exact on it
At any rate, you can book a package now and make park reservations.

We have had APs for years, but sadly they expire in September. In past years, we have been able to renew well before the 60 day window. That is no longer true. This year, we have changed to only 1 trip and purchased park hopper tickets for our trip early so we could get the park reservations that we wanted. Not sure if we will be able to exchange the ticket for a new AP renewal. And if we can, it will come down to price.
As others have said, October tends to be busy. Get your tickets early and get your park passes early.
