How early do they decide about skipping Castaway?

I know there are still a couple of days that the forecast can change, but right now it is 100% chance of morning thunder storms and all day rain on Castaway on Thursday.

Just curious if with a forecast like that they ever announce a skip early.

I would think that they would wait till the last moment to skip. On one of our cruises they kept trying and we were finally able to dock around 12:30 on attempt #4.

That would make sense on a day where there is the possibility of sun. Thursday is predicted to be ZERO sun and all storms and rain.

I imagine you were following along with the drama that was DCL's decisions regarding hurricane Matthew. Take how long they waited to make any definite decisions on a category 4 hurricane, and now apply that same decision making to some comparatively minor storms. You will be lucky to know the night before. At this point Accuweather states "periods of rain and a thunderstorm" so it is in no way saying that it will rain all day, only that it will definitely rain at some point. You may even find an opportunity to go ashore while most everyone else stays on the ship and at least get some pictures of a nearly empty island. Not as good as a sunny afternoon on the beach, but a unique situation.

Either way I hope you enjoy your trip!

We will be there Wednesday, and the forecast isn't any better. BOOO!

I miscounted - we are there Thursday, too - Double BOOO!!

No, I believe they will go to CC if it rains and they are able to dock.

Weather.com is saying 100% chance.

Sadly it is too late to cancel the cabana. Of course - the one time I snag one we have a crappy forecast.

Thanks!

Yes, but a 100% chance of rain does not mean it will rain for 100% of the day. It means that there will definitely be some rain, at some time, for some duration. To quote them directly (emphasis mine), "Thunderstorms in the morning followed by occasional showers in the afternoon."

Maybe cancel the cabana when you get onboard? If they have someone else snag it you will not be charged. People go crazy over the cabana's so I'm sure someone will put their name on a waitlist.

I may go talk to them. Given the forecast I wouldn't anticipate people exactly jumping for them though.

You never know. Not everyone checks the forecast. We had a cabana back in 2011 when they were first out. We didn't have a all day rain, but it did storm pretty good in the afternoon. Everyone else left and ran back to the ship while those of us in the cabana's hung out while it rained. After the rain we still had time on the island and it was pretty empty.

we were on board and they couldnt get docked until around noon. they discounted the cabana pricing so we still enjoyed it in the afternoon but it was half price or maybe even a little less.

Ok, I shall hope for that. Save a butterfly flapping it's wings somewhere and changing the forecast.

It's the winds and currents that stop any docking at Castaway, not rain. Which can obviously be a factor if its full on storms.
Many people want to get to Castaway whatever the weather as they've paid for it. I've been to Castaway many times when its been raining as we've got off to set up, but by the time its all aboard, everyone has forgotten that it rained at all that day.
If it rains and you don't want to get off then you can always stay onboard (as if you don't dock thats going to be your only option anyway), but the option is there if you do want to get off.

Ive been on a number of cruises that we haven't made it Castaway and there was only one that we knew the day before that we weren't going to make it and went to Nassau instead (that was due to picking up a raft and another emergency the sea day before though, not weather), every other cruise, the Captain has at least attempted to dock.

Wouldn't a cabana be good to have on a rainy day?

But the whole point of going to a beach island is to enjoy the beach. There is no enjoying the beach on a day of thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms yes but if it's only raining enjoy the ocean while your things stay dry. If thunderstorms go into your cabana, when it's clear enjoy the ocean.

We sailed the first week of February and the week before the weather prediction was for rain. By the time we got there it was beautiful and sunny all day. Good luck. ☀️

Yeah... I'm hoping for the best. It has been getting progressively worse over the last week. :/
