How early can I mow lawn on Sun. Morning (8am?)

DH and the boys have been out mowing as early as 6 a.m. and the neighbor across the street starts as soon as he sees them out. Neighbor on one side is a druggy so who cares if we wake him up :confused3 and the other side is empty for now. The neighbors behind us go to church early on Sundays so they don't mind the noise.

8am would be fine with me but we are up and about to leave for church at that time. My sleep late day is Saturday. Sunday is worship. (teach ASL SS class and interpret service)

In the winter, when everyone's windows are closed, feel free to fire up that snowblower whenever you feel like. But in the summer - when we've all got open windows - do you really want to make everyone angry by waking them up?

If you REALLY need to mow that early, make the rounds of your neighbors and ask them what they'd be comfortable with. That way if they get angry, hey you gave them a warning.

8AM is way too early on a Sunday. I would be okay with 9AM or after, but we have neighbors with no kids, they might sleep in even longer.

As a night-shift nurse, I beg you--don't mow before 10am. Your yard won't care. Perhaps you can do the pruning and the weeding(quiet stuff) if you just have to be outside. Next time you're in the ER with something in the middle of the night, think about how many times those nurses have been awakened during their sleep for things like lawn mowing.

I personally believe that you can't please everyone, because no matter what you do there will be some people who just don't like it. For me personally, I wouldn't be mowing on a Sunday morning as we are out of the house at 8:00 to go to church. However, I feel that 9am is a fair hour to begin mowing if one is home and so desires.

Minkydog to be honest it is too darn hot by 10am to mow the lawn. Wait that long and the person mowing the lawn may end up in the ER. Better to do it earlier and not wnd up in the ER. Around here we start as early as 6am. or they can use my solution. Lawn service every 2 weeks. Worth it for keeping dh out of the ER

Beat me to it. I'd want to mow the lawn first thing before the heat and humidity set in. I realize some folks work nites, but the reality is that most don't. Plus weekends are family time. I would often get the lawn mowed while DW and DD were getting up and ready, reading the paper, etc. Then I'd hop in the shower and we could do whatever we had planned for the day.

I hate to say it, but I think 8 am is fine. I realize I'm in the minority, but we have 2 acres to mow. It takes me 1 hour on the riding lawn mower, plus 1/2 hour with the push mower, and another 1/2 hour with the weed wacker. I don't mind waiting til later in cool weather, but if I wait til 10 am in July and August, I don't finish til noon, and it's too hot.

I was just having this conversation with some neighbors yesterday! One neighbors landscaper came at 755am on Saturday morning and some neighbors are furious! I get up early 5 days a week and on the weekends I would like to sleep in without some bonehead firing up a lawnmower at 8am!
I am not sure what the neighbor is going to do about the landscaper but I know a few of the neighbors have said they are going to speak to them about it.
Personally I would rather have someone cutting their lawn at 10pm than at 7-8am!

Now that I am up early, it doesn't bother me to hear lawn mowers going. But, boy, when I slept in on Sunday mornings, it used to annoy me to no end!!!!! I think unless you know your neighbors' habits really well, 9:00am is still too early on a Sunday. My rule would be Saturday 9:00am, Sunday 10::00am.

I agree. 9am at the very earliest, 10 am on Sundays.

Personally I don't care what time others mow the lawn. I get up at 7:00am every morning to feed the dogs. Our neighbors usually don't fire up their lawn mowers until 9:00am or later. In the hot, humid months like July, August and September everyone starts mowing about 7:30am. We try to have our lawn mowed during the week to free up the weekends with other activities.

After 10 AM would be considered polite I think! Before that and your sleeping in non church going neighbors will be cursing your name! ;)

I almost always agree with what you say on these boards, but this time, I respectfully disagree. We have to consider, not only those who work graveyard shift, but also those who work swing as well. I know a lot of people who get off at midnight who don't get home and in bed until 2am. The combination of swing shift and graveyard shift accounts for a HUGE amount of the population. Consider not only hospital and airport employees, but restaurant and store employees. Nearly every place of retail business in America has a swing shift and many have a graveyard shift. When you consider all the places that stay open until ten or eleven (thus employees leaving at midnight) then there are a huge amount of people who probably need to sleep until 10am in order to get a reasonable amount of sleep.

Then ya gotta consider us insomniacs who usually can't fall asleep until 4am!

I'm with the crowd who says, "please, please, please wait until 10am!"

We are just the opposite. We used to get upset when people were mowing late because the noise was a problem when DD was trying to go to sleep. It isn't a problem anymore because she stays up later and both of our next door neighbors now have a lawn service so the lawns get done mid-day during the week.

Around here the trash companies can be and will be fined if they are on the roads before 7am. DH drove a garbage truck for several years and the company wouldn't allow employee's through the gates before 6:45 a.m. to prevent a fine. I guess we're lucky.

Oh wow I would love that. The garbage truck is here twice a week at 5:30, and the best part is we have a large dumpster that the truck picks up and then dumps, making it even louder than it has to be.

Thanks for disagreeing respectfully ;) .

I think how much of a problem this is depends on your particular neighborhood. Around here, all of my close neighbors work days. The only exception is one neighbor who works for the electric company and will occasionally have to go out at night but normally he is day shift.

If you know you have nearby neighbors who work nights then certainly some extra consideration is due when deciding what time to fire up the mower.

I hope instead of mowing on Sunday you will try a visiting a local church. Can you mow on Saturday? On Saturday most neighbors mow here anytime after 10 a.m.
God bless you!
