How early can I get boat from YC to MGM?

I have this compulsive need to be first in line at rope drop. If I ride the boat from the YC area to MGM, can I get there in time? How many hours/minutes before the park opens does the boat leave the YC area? Where do we have to go to catch the boat?

I've heard it is a 20-30 minute walk.

at a normal pace, it's ten minutes, give or take one or two minutes;
in 30 minutes you can walk from MGM to Epcot
and I'm 65

The boat will get you there a few minutes before opening. You will not be close to the rope. Last fall we were staying at the BWI and went to the boat dock before 8:30. At 8:40 we decided to start walking. We got to the gates just as the boat pulled up to the dock. We made it through the turnstyles and waited about a minute for the rope drop (we were way in the back and were ahead of the people from the boat).

My DS (now 14) and I have walked from the Yacht Club to the Studios a number of times. Ten minutes is walking FAST, not at a normal/leisure pace. I believe we timed it once at twelve minutes, but that was really walking. It is a nice walk and we enjoy it. The walk will always beat the boat, as we have "raced" the boat several times....and always won!
