How durable is decoupage?

How durable is decoupage? Im putting together autograph books for my sons, they are canvas, they have great blank pages that we’ve decorated soo cute! Now I need to do the covers and Im at a loose, painting them is not working. So I thought possible decoupage.

I've never used Modge Podge on canvas before but it is pretty durable. I used it on some altered clipboards. I would still throw the books in a zilpoc bag to keep them from getting wet but it should be fine.
