How does vandalism and looting accomplish anything???

It's hard to say. While I agree in theory, I would not send my child if their bus had to drive through that area. If too many people held their kids home, the schools might not get enough funding to pay their costs.
:thumbsup2

Yes. they are covering their political and legal butts. That doesn't make it right for the community. Do you agree that opening the schools would create a sense of normalcy that is sorely needed?
I think it's very likely. But I also know that things like this are very popular in triggering mass class-cutting... excuse me, "solidarity walkouts" among students. Heck, we even had groups of high-schoolers across the state here, over 1,000 miles away, doing that during the Trayvon Martin kerfuffle.

Yep, and here if not enough kids show up to class on a given day (75% IIRC) the State doesn't count the day as an "instructional day" for the purposes of meeting state requirements.

I have a feeling the initial reaction in the community had a lot to do with the poor relationship between law enforcement and the community. There seems to be a lack of trust and disrespect towards one another on both sides. The shooting didn't cause that, it just brought it to a head.

This true. There a deep distrust between the community and law enforcement and the shooting was simply a spark that set things off. The police department has a record of brutality and is never held accountable because of the power structure.

How about if an area is set aside for the protests (I don't know why they need to continue, but it is a protected right), and they are told not to march out of that area or they will be arrested. Then the businesses, those not yet completely looted out, will be protected.

Please cite your evidence of police brutality by this dept.

One thing to come out of the tragedy is that a vote registration booth has been set up on the street where Brown was killed. Sharpton said at the Church the other day that the people need to register and vote in elections. If they don't, nothing will change and they only have themselves to blame.

The police chief says they have recruited black officers, but simply put, there has been little interest from the residents. With such a high unemployment rate, you would think people would be lining up, but in my opinion, it might lead to being ostracised by the community, which may prevent some from applying.

Johnson asked the peaceful protesters to come out during the day so they could deal with the troublemakers at night. This does not mean though that the hooligans won't come out during the day if they know news media is reporting. It's still dangerous for kids to be in school, IMO. Some of the people are there to foment unrest. A school full of children could make a target.

Hmmm...not surprised, not in the least.

It doesn't. The people doing the vandalizing and looting aren't interested in accomplishing anything except destroying property and getting free stuff.

This hasn't been on the network news yet that I know of so make of it what you will, Wilson had an orbital blowout fracture during the Mike Brown fight.

Haven't seen this anywhere else, but if true, it adds credence to the officer's case. Not only is he in a life or death situation, but he is doing it most likely in a fog due to the concussive effects and possible vision disturbance.

I must admit I have been surprised that the officer's facial injury has not been blamed by the "prosecution" as having happened when he tried to open the door on the guys, and it bounced back, injuring his face.

A St. Louis Post Dispatch reporter says that Ferguson, Missouri, police confirm that more than a dozen witnesses to the shooting of teenager Michael Brown have backed up the account of the incident offered by the officer who killed the teenager.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Christine Byers tweeted Monday that police told her that an account of the shooting by a woman named "Josie" who called into a syndicated radio program last Friday matches the account given by Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown.

IF this is true are the "good" people and ole Rev. Al going to accept it?

I'd put a big asterisk next to that as it's another anonymous source leak. It reportedly has been confirmed by another unnamed source, but I'd be cautious with the info. It would seem like the FPD, whose critics have accused it of bending over backwards to defend Wilson, would have mentioned something about it other than "he was treated" afterwards.

If the good citizens are blaming the gunshots, looting, etc on outsiders, then simply stop the protests. Then it will be easy to tell the bad guys from the good.

But many of the protesters think that the "provocateurs" are merely "plants" sent by unnamed groups in order to try and get the police to attack the peaceful protesters. Here's protest spokesman Malik Shabazz making that case live on CNN. To them, stopping the protests would give those behind sending in the "plants" what they want!

I wouldn't make too much of that at this point for many reasons. It's from anonymous sources and on a site which as a clear point of view on this shooting. Also Brown's autopsy does not mention any injuries to his hand. If he punched someone that hard there would probably be something to indicate that. Another thing is there is cell phone video of the scene immediately after the shooting (a different video from the one with the hidden conversation,). It shows Wilson and another officer standing next to the body talking right after the shooting. It's several minutes long and while you can't see Wilson's face well enough to look for injuries, he in no way acts one someone with an orbital fractures. He's just standing there talking, I think he's walking around at one point but he doesn't touch his face or do anything that would make you think he had any serious injury. The other officer also does nothing which would indicate Wilson had an injury that concerned him.
