How does vandalism and looting accomplish anything???

Why should the 99% who are law abiding citizens leave to allow the 1% who are criminals the freedom to destroy their homes?

I'd guess the vast majority of the residents in Ferguson are hiding in their houses in fear each night and I'm glad the national guard has been called in to restore some order, they should have been called in earlier.

I have no sympathy for the looters and rioters but great sympathy for those that are protesting peacefully and just trying to live their lives with all this chaos around them.

you said it much better than I did.

Agree.

I grew up in North County btw, near that area.

I am sure residents are living in fear. It is just awful.

The mobs rules. Sadly, there is no voice of reason. It's seems, some want AND need to continue, throwing fuel on the fire. When is it enough?

So you want them to give up their homes? Where do they go? Truly, that makes no sense. Why should the majority who are law abiding citizens have to leave?

What makes no sense is that the law abiding citizens won't stand up to criminals.

There are citizens that are doing that.

Take for example the Bosnian's that own the meat market in that area which has been looted twice. Last night they stood outside their store with machine guns.

That is what my dh told me. I can't reference a link, he may have seen it on the news.

Sorry, forgot the link:

I don't know what his PBA rep told him but:
A source with detailed knowledge of the investigation later told CNN the caller's account is "accurate," in that it matches what Wilson has told investigators.

Seems like a lot of loose lips among the local police and prosecutors. At the risk of being called a conspiracy theorist, is this just coincidental or part of the Blue Shield's strategy.

Watching the local news is sad, frightening, confusing and so weird to see this happening here.

Gotta be kidding me , now a group is dragging a port o potty across the street. I guess trying to make a barrier or something.

Ferguson looks like a war zone from the video feeds. There are gunshots from protesters, the police are using tear gas and smoke bombs again plus a high pitched vibrating noise. It's crazy. They're telling protesters to get off of the road but they aren't. Protesters are shooting at reporters.

Someone is shooting, - the local news (KTVI) is reporting a person drove up to the line of police for help after being shot by protesters

Now there is a fire. Awesome. Keep shooting and throwing stuff at the police, that will help.

Seriously- there is a difference between protesting/ demonstrating and just being an idiot.

The swat team had to rescue the vice news crew. They were trapped by gun fire.
There's a fire at Red's BBQ.

I think Redd's was looted or set on fire or something the first night- man what did poor Old Redd do!

Joe Biggs from Alex Jones' crew put out the fire on the building's exterior but I think there's one inside. The owner was just on one of the feeds. The SWAT team is clearing out that area because someone has been shot.

Tons of respect to the older members of the community trying to keep the peace. It takes real men (and women) to stand up to a line of angry young people and a line of armed police officers.

It looks like the under 30 crowd is looking for a confrontation and the over 30 crowd is doing everything they can to prevent it.

This is pretty much a textbook example on why a family should be able to possess firearms (& not just a hunting rifle or handgun) to protect themselves & their property.

Does not for the narrative. Race is mentioned for white on black (or, they sound white (Zimmerman) on black) incidents.
Of course it doesn't fit the narrative that the media wants to tell. When Kelly Thomas (white) was beaten to death by (former) officer Manuel Ramos (latino), the subject of racism was never even mentioned.

2:15 am Johnson press conference:
31 arrests some from California and New York, numerous Molotov cocktails and shots at police, fire at Redd's and at an unoccupied house
Police stopped a car near the media area and confiscated guns from protesters. Johnson thinks they may have planned to shoot reporters.

I agree. I'm a little surprised we're not hearing of more people being shot by owners, or maybe I'm just missing it. No Way I would stand by and let looters destroy my business.

On Sunday night the owners of I think the beauty supply store stood outside of their business with a loaded gun. Needless to say, their business was not looted.
The thing that got me about last night's protest besides the violence was the reporters arguing with police. They are supposed to stay in a staging area but many left that spot to walk around when they heard about violence or they heard gun shots. I believe in the 1st Amendment. I also believe the police had a very tough job. They were trying to keep the reporters in a spot where they'd be safe. A few reporters were picked up and one had his badge yanked off by an officer who told him that when they're dealing with this kind of violence, his badge was not important. As I said, the 1st amendment is important but I think they need to stay out of the way so that the police can do their job. For the most part, the ones getting into trouble with the police were independent, online news people.
I don't know what else the officials or anyone can do can do in Ferguson. There was a curfew which was unpopular and it didn't work. The National Guard was brought in and protesters tried to storm the state building where the governor's office is located because they were mad about the National Guard. The protesters don't like their own local police force. Some of the local people did a wonderful job near W. Florissant keeping calm but these good people cannot be everywhere.
Then there is the New Black Panthers group who were leading a group chanting, " What's his name?" The crowd answers, "Darren Wilson" the leaders asks, " How do we want him?" The crowd answers, "Dead". That was bad but the worst thing was there were little children in the group.

The issue is though the press should be allowed ANYWHERE the general public is. I do think the police can say "leave this area at your own risk", but they shouldn't be allowed to say "press can only stay here under risk of arrest" unless the public is also under risk of arrest by leaving the area.
