We are going to be doing 5 full days in Orlando in September, have a 5 day pass for US/IOA but know that we will be needing a few more places to visit. We have been to MK and Epcot before, so know a bit about them but do not have any first hand knowledge of MGM.

Would going to MGM be very similar to US,or is there enough of a difference to make it worth the inconvience of no front of the line passes? I know September will be fairly light lines.

We are driving to Orlando so transportation will not be a problem.

US is definitely bigger than MGM and has a larger variety of rides/shows, but I think a trip to MGM is worth it. Tower of Terror and Rock'n Roller Coaster are my family's favorites rides at WDW. I don't think you'll face large crowds in September. WDW has Fast Pass which is similar to FOTL so you can always utilize that in case of any long lines. TOT and RNR are must rides!

Depends on when you're going, but I've heard ToT is down for a refurb from 17th September - the day I arrive! :(

However, back to the original question....

Personally I would never avoid Disney/MGM due to the refurb schedule. There are lots of great attractions to be found and pretty much something for all ages, from the laugh-a-minute "MuppetVision 4D" to the relatively thrilling "Star Tours", "The Great Movie Ride" and of course "Fantasmic".

However, if I was pressed, I would always go for Universal as I have a far greater appreciation of it, but that's just me!

I too prefer US over MGM. But, MGM has some shows and rides worth the trip. Plus Fantasmic is the BEST!

I've been to both (obviously) and each one has its variances. If you like USF, you'll like MGM and vice versa (generally). If you prefer rides over shows, then you'll like USF. MGM has more shows. The two parks are very different, and both are worth going to.

MGM is my 2nd favorite Disney park, bested only by Epcot.

One of the best parts of our trip was Fantasmic. I can't tell you how cool and amazing this show was. I love all parts of MGM, but even if I didn't I would go at night just to see this show. It converted my DH, who was not a Disney lover. Get there early and enjoy. We went in Dec. and went to see the Osborne Lights afterward and it was one of the most magical nights I remember as a family. Enjoy!
