How does transferring points work?

Hi All-

My sister and BIL may be considering a purchase of a small contract through the timeshare store. They are concerned that even though the contract is small that they STILL might not use all of the points. (I of course know better LOL!)

I am already a DVC owner....if it did come to them having some extra points that they KNEW they weren't going to use in a certain year, is it possible for them to transfer those points to my contract?

If so, how easy or difficult is it to do that? I imagine I would still need to use those points under the same guidelines governing my sister's contract, as far as using or losing them? And as far as booking privileges at home resorts? (theirs would be different than mine) I'm confused as to how this would work.

Can someone clarify this for me please?

Thank you!

I just did this with my parents. We wanted to split a 2 bedroom so they were going to transfer half of the point cost of a 2 bedroom into my account but they couldn't because we learned rule # 1 when transferring points. You can not transfer banked points. This was fine though, what we did was I transferred my points into their account since they were current use year.

This was when I learned rule # 2 about banking. The person that is receiving the banked points can get transeferred into their account as many points as they would like. i.e. My parents have have 250 points. They had banked 250 points giving them a total of 500 in that use year. I was worried that I couldn't give them any more current use year points since they already had the max, but that is not the case when transferring points, I could have transferred 800 points if I wanted to.

Rule # 3 the transferred points need to be used in the previous owners use month time frame.

Not sure about the different home resorts since both my parents and my home is BCV.

As far as the process it is very simple. The person transferring the points just needs to call MS and ask for the tranfer, then fax or mail in a signed confirmation.

Hope this helps.

Adding to the above. Though you cannot transfer banked points, you can bank points that have been transfered.

Those transfered points retain their resort identity. Thus, they can be used for an 11 month out ressie only at the home resort to which they apply. A person transfering points can just call MS and tell them to which account he wants them transfered although it is best to have both members available in case any questions arise.

Thank you for the replies.

Even if they do buy, I doubt they will transfer points (I think they'll get hooked like the rest of us and use them)

But if they ever feel the need to transfer any of them to me, who am I to say NO!;)

Thanks again!
