How does this work?

We own 160 BLT points, UY = February.
We are looking at a resale contract at BWV (100 points), UY=Dec.
Question-These now are both of our home resorts.
Can we only use the 160 to book at BLT, and 100 to book at BWV? How does that work?

Only BLT points can be used at 11 months out at BLT and only BWV points can be used 11 months out at BWV. Moreover since you would have two different use years, the contracts do not combine for any purpose-- e.g., dues would be separate, each has its own banking date. At 7 months, you cannot combine the the points for a single night without doing a transfer from one contract to the other, so instead to make a reservation 7 months out at one resort, you would reserve some nights with the BLT points, the other nights with the BWV points, and then link the reservations through MS making it one reservation.

Other than cost, are there any advantages to this?
This Feb, we will have: 216 at BLT (we are banking a few points), and 100 at BW.
We plan on going next November (2011). For arguments sake, let's say we use all of out points.
Come Dec 2011, we will have 100 banked points at BW, and 100 more coming, for a total of 200. In Feb 2011, we got our 160 at BLT.
So, if we wanted to do FW festival, we would be able to use the 11 month window for BW at 200 points?

And once points get banked, can they be used anywhere? So, in a different scenario, can the 100 banked BW points then be used for the 11 month window for BLT (or vice-versa)?

Again, only points attached to a resort (BLT for BLT or BWV for BWV) can be used to reserve at that particular resort at 11 months out regardless of whether the points are regular or banked points. You can use both sets of points to reserve a trip at one resort only at 7 months out.

Thus, if you want to reserve at BWV at 11 months out for a trip in 2011 that begins on or after Dec 2010 but ends on or before Nov 30, 2011, you can call 11 months before date of arrival and bank 100 2009 BWV points and use those plus the 100 coming in Dec 2010 to book at BWV but not at any other resort. What you suggest is different. If you have 100 points coming in Dec 2010, those will be "current" use year points for a trip in Nov 2011 and there is nothing to bank from Dec 2010. Unless you have Dec 2009 points to bank, you will not have a double allotment for trip in Nov 2011 unless you were to borrow from the Dec 2011 use year.

To understand why you cannot use both resorts' points at a single resort 11 months out consider the following: if that were allowed large numbers of members would buy all their points at SSR (least costly) and then add the minimum 25 at BLT and then use all those points at 11 months out to book at BLT, essentially eliminating any 11 month home resort advantage that BLT owners would have.

The possible advantage of owning at two resorts is simply that it gives you the 11 month window at both so you can do something like the following -- reserve at BLT at 11 months out in one use year and bank the BWV points; next use year reserve at BWV 11 months out using the banked points and the ones applicable to the new use year, and bank the BLT points for that year; next use year use the banked and regular BLT points reserving 11 months at BLT and bank the BWV points, etc., thus giving you a double allotment of points at each resort in alternate years that you can use by reserving 11 months out.

And once points get banked, can they be used anywhere? So, in a different scenario, can the 100 banked BW points then be used for the 11 month window for BLT (or vice-versa)?

as stated above, if you want to book BLT you need BLT pts. you can use banked BLT pts, current BLT pts, borrowed BLT pts or BLT pts you've transferred in from a BLT owner...but ONLY BLT pts. BWV pts of any sort won't be useful for booking BLT till the 7 month window.

(and you really would be taking a risk to travel in oct or nov with a dec UY...ideally, you'd like to travel early in your UY and not in the last few months. but if you never have to cancel, UY will never be an issue...)

Do yourself a favor and stick with one UY.

Good idea. Just having two resorts with the same UY is plenty of thought provoking work when combining the points at the 7 month mark. As you need to make sure MS uses the right points (banked, current year or future year) for each resort.

And once points get banked, can they be used anywhere? So, in a different scenario, can the 100 banked BW points then be used for the 11 month window for BLT (or vice-versa)?
Think of points like currency. If you have foreign currency left over from a trip you have taken, whether it is still in your wallet or you put it in a plastic bag in a dresser drawer or you give it to a friend, it doesn't turn into dollars or anything else. DVC points are the same: whether they are current, banked, borrowed or you transfer them to another member, they don't change. BWV points are still BWV points whether banked, borrowed or transferred.

If you want to book a trip from 11 months to 7 months and 1 day prior to check-in, MS only accepts local currency for that reservation. If you want to book BWV you have to pay with BWV points but those BWV points can be current, banked, borrowed or transferred BWV points. If you book 7 months or less from check-in any currency is accepted (BWV points, BLT points, OKW points, etc.)
