We are checking in at OKW with a family group on 1/7, but we will arrive a few hours before the rest. We have 4 rooms (2-2BR, 2 studios). All of them were booked with points on our membership, but in the names of the relatives who will be staying there. Will we be able to check in for the entire group, or will we have to wait until everyone is present? TIA!!:thumbsup2

Just add your name to all reservations and you will be able to check in for all of them if you want. They might let yo check in for them anyway as a member but that seems hit or miss and they might not. They will ask you who will be in which room and then print the cards up accordingly. The main issue with this is charging to the room so you'd either have to get non charging OR put in on your credit card though they could go up later and have it switched to their card if they wanted.

Unless you have added the Dining Plan, then if you add your name onto each room (so that you may check them in), you will have to pay for the DDP multiple times!).

Or if any room is at maximum capacity, you can not add your name for check-in purposes.

Otherwise, Dean's suggestion (is one I have used many times) is the easiest solution.

Since the DDP is linked to the reservation and not the person I don't think you'd have the problem that you say. But if you did, it would be on reservation and not at check in. Because when you check in you just tell them who is in which room. Just because the members name is on the reservation doesn't mean they have to stay in that room (other than maybe the member discount issue). I did this two weeks ago. Checked in for two rooms under my name, one an exchange. Told them who was in which room and got the DDP for myself and wife only in the 1 BR reserved on points. Even though the exchange was in my name, I didn't even have to stay in it. Worst case scenario for a couple would be to use the spouse's name on some and yours on the others.

we had this problem in Oct this year. DW and I got to BWV at 8 am on a SUN after 3 nts at CSR . (I had 3 studios reserved) and my SIL was in one and my Dsis and DH in one. I checked at around 8am and was told I could only check-in for my room and the others would have to check-in when they got there. My room wasn't ready. So instead of arguing with the CM ( at conceirge desk) I left and sat down for awhile , then went back up to front desk to check on my room about 11 am. It wasn't ready yet, so I asked if I could check-in my guests and the CM did so and my sister and DH room was ready. The CM gave me the room keys for the other 2 rooms with no problem. DW and I then went to my DSIS room to wait for them . They got in about 12:30 pm.
No we were not on the DDP.

Now by letting me check-in for all rooms and 1 was ready, we could at least get into a room and rest instead of sitting in the lobby or.

Anyway it depends on your CM what will happen.

Dean:

The Advisor I spoke to (we had DDP) on both rooms, said if I was listed in each room, I would be charged twice for the DDP. Since supposedly you need at least 24 hours to add/change/delete the DDP, I assumed what the Advisor told me was true. On all my confirmation letters, it lists the DDP as added, and the number of guests is also shown (on another line, not the DDP line).

It is good to hear that you have actually done this (I didn't, since I 'believed' the Advisor), and have had no problems, I will try it on my next visit in April. (I suppose I can always say there is an error at check-in (if they try to charge me twice), "How can I be in 2 rooms at once?"

Happy New Year.

PS, but you can't add a name and exceed the occupation limts, I have tried this and been denied.

Tony, don't believe everything you hear from MS, the guides, etc. I would suspect it depends on whether you end up in that room when you actually check in as I'm not sure they would allow you to be listed in more than one room though I've done that in the past also. Just because you're listed on the reservation and are checking in doesn't mean you have to ultimately be staying in that room other than the member cash discount. As for occupancy, it depends. I doubt they'd go over what they would normally allow just to list you but all you have to do is just leave off another person and correct it on check in. In spite of some of the hype, there's no way DVC will be able to require the entire party names in advance of check in. But certainly if you had DDP on both rooms you'd have to pay twice if you were listed AT CHECK IN ON BOTH ROOMS. But if you're one of those that thinks it's such a great deal, that might work to your advantage.
