Do you have to ask for a code when you login?

Is it limited to one laptop?

I am sure there is something here on the board, I just did not find it.

The rooms do not have Wifi, they have wired internet access. If you have a studio or 1BR, you get only one ethernet wall hook-up; if you have a 2BR lock-off, you get two (one in the studio, one in the 1BR), if you have a 2BR dedicated, you get only one. If you have a wireless router (many pocket sized ones available if you don't want to bring the one you have from home) you can hook it up to the ehternet wall socket and have wireless in the room for use by multiplee computers (and an itouch).

When you hook up and turn on your computer and open internet explorer (or safari, or fireox, or google chrome), you will get a page that has you sign in (no special code needed) and it tells you that there is no charge for DVC members.

If you want wifi, bring your wifi router down with you and plug it into the hard wire ethernet port. Then you can have wifi in your room.

The answer is not complete. At DVC Vero Beach and Hilton Head, there is wifi. You get an access code when you check in. We've had two PCs and my iphone connected at the same time with no problems. Speed is not great for streaming (e.g. if you want to watch Netflix in your room at night) but otherwise is ok.

Both the wired at Orlando and the wifi are run through companies that have some difficulty spelling Customer Service, so hope that you don't have any router / connection / IP problems. Apparently Disney buys the service and interaction to solve problems is outsourced to companies that don't have the same good view of customer service that Disney has.

That explains everything. Last summer, we had challenges getting our airport to connect. OY, the grief we got from the tech services over the phone. Finally after going through all their steps twice, they send out a real person to our room. Now this guy was a Disney employee, he just about pulled up the carpet to figure out what was wrong. While he didn't criticize the phone tech service he did say that he thought they solved problems off a script. He finally rewired our room with a "hockey puck" type ethernet to attach to our airport. He said next time, don't even say mac/apple to the tech services on the phone, he said they "mentally shut down".

Other than that one time, we have not had any trouble setting up our airport for wifi. Last weekend we were at VGC and it was wireless.

We have 4 studios booked for Sept. All of them using our points. Will they all have free internet?

Funny, because the Apple Airport is probably the easiest wifi router to use. Once it is set up, just plug it in anywhere you like and you're done.

And this is from someone who usually works with Windows PCs.

yes the apple airport is the easiest to set up. When we couldn't connect, I went through all the steps to see if it was the airport or the connection. We had decided that it was the drop because it was a new airport that I had just configured at home. But when asked what kind of computer I was attempting to hook up to the ethernet, the tech service gentlemen kept saying that they "don't do Apple troubleshooting" even though I told them I thought it was the drop. I do tech at school and my DH does school technology refits, so we're pretty familiar with most drops and what's in the DVC rooms. Turns out that the drop wiring under the rug had problems, so he rewired to a "hockey puck" and filled some paperwork for repair when they renovated the BWV room. But tech services is not Apple friendly;)

On my recent stay in a studio at AK-Jambo House I also couldn't get a connection to the internet with my Apple Airport. I thought it was probably because the data plug which was built into the desk had been pushed in.

As we were in the room only early in the morning and back late at night I didn't have time to call the support line. But next time when we stay longer (and I bring my iPad) I would call.

I just got back yesterday from Jambo house, and kept getting the same error daily. The customer service was excellent when I called, just gave me a code to type in and away I went.
