How does the trip insurance work?

We are 40 days from our cruise and it is paid for and we bought the insurance. DS, 16, broke his leg tonight in a hockey game and also injured his achilles tendon. First news from the hospital is that he will need at least 8 weeks off his leg. We haven't received the little brochure on insurance yet since it usually comes with the documents. Does anyone know how it works? Is our trip refundable if we can't go due to his doctors not allowing it? Does anyone know the fine print of the policy? Would Disney know if I called them? If possible, we'd like to wait till right before the trip, say a week, and then make the decision, but we'd like to know just how this insurance works. Thanks for any help you can shed on this. Our son is very upset about all this.

I would call the insurance company for your own peace of mind but this should be covered for all of you. I would first contact DCL and advise them our your new situation and ask what they would be able to provide for you on the ship.

I had to file a claim several years ago. The insurance coverage is issued by another company, but Disney did provide guidance and documentation.

WOW! I hope your son recovers quickly, and without too much pain.

Once you have a chance to speak to a specialist (vs. ER staff) you may have a better idea of what to expect, and if going is even a possibility. Remember, health comes first!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your son!

If you get medical documentation, even up to the last minute, the insurance should provide you with a full refund of what you paid for the tirp. If you cancel the whole thing they may keep their premium and if you've booked air fare seperately and not insured it, that would be a loss.

Two years ago, my DW was in the hospital up until the day before we sailed. We got very close to cancelling, but we had the insurance, so we knew we'd get the money back. Fortuneately she was cleared to go. So you don't have to decide unitl the last mintue. The only other thing to keep in mind is, you will get what you paid for this crusie back, but when you go to book a replacement cruise, you'll be subject to the prices in effect at that time. They won't just re-book you at no cost.
