How does the points system work exactly?

I have just joined DVC and bought 210 points from SSR. out of the hundreds of questions i asked the rep, i forgot one, so I am seeking answers from all the veterans here!

I understand that the points within the resort don't change, as in 12 points per night at SSR will not change for period of time i own the membership.

But what about cruiseline? Currently it's something like 160 pts per person on cruise, will that point stay the same forever? And what about for other disney hotels like AKL? And what about other resorts that's not owned by disney, like somewhere in Hawaii or France?

Edited because I missed most of the OP!

It's not entirely true that "12 points per night" will never change. What will not change is the total universe of points at each resort. It is possible for say, for weeknights in Adventure Season to go up, as long as something else -- like Weekends in Magic Season come down as well.

DVC only adjusts points if they see a problem. So far there's been an adjustment at OKW early on and a "semi adjustment" at BWV when they added the Standard View category.

Also keep in mind that how Thanksgiving and Easter fall effects the point calendar. One year your March trip could be in Choice Season and then next year you could find yourself paying Premium Season points for the same dates. The same type of thing can happen if your vacation spans a "season" change. One year your "first week of May trip" can bump up in point cost if that week also includes some days (especially weekend days) in April which are a higher season.

Cruises, Concierge Collection, World of Resorts -- none of these are protected. Points can and do up for these reservations -- sometimes dramatically. These rates are negotiated yearly by DVC and they determine how many points they'll need from the remember to "rent for cash" to pay for the trade.
