How does the new waitlisting policy differ from the old?

OK, so I understand the differences in the new reservations policy, but I'm confused over the waitlisting changes. This is how it's described on the DVC site:

Disney Vacation Club has also streamlined the manner in which Members can make waitlist requests, now allowing Members to make requests for the consecutive nights they require to complete their desired length of stay (from one night up to as many consecutive nights needed or requested by the Member). Previously, Members would place requests on the waitlist for intermittent nights that historically had high cancellation rates and would tie up inventory in an inefficient manner, negatively impacting the overall booking process.

No more day by day waitlisting, if there are days missing when you call and they are consceutive they can only be waitlisted as a block not individually. Also if you call at the 11 month or 7 month mark and the first day is not available you cannot book any days after that as the first day has to be bookable!

Claire ;)

Claire has pretty much covered it. As I understand it, under the old policy, if you had a day missing in a block of days, you could waitlist for that one day. Now you have to either waitlist for the whole lot or not at all.

LOL! I love the way DVC has made this sound like a positive change ("... streamlined...") !

I was recently trying to add a day at the beginning of a stay already booked for October. The extra day wasn't available, so I was offered the 'new' waitlist. I was about to go on the waitlist when I asked about another permutation of dates that was available, so I didn't need to waitlist. But this it's got me wondering though - in those circumstances, would I have effectively lost the original booking (made months ago) if the extra day at the beginning had never come through?

i.e I had 2 days booked and wanted 3 but, if waitlisting, would I have been agreeing to lose the entire booking if the extra day didn't materialise?
