How does the insurance work if we cancel?

If we cancel our cruise before the 60 days out mark, are we out the money for the insurance?

We found a cruise on Carnival that would give us a Freeport stop in a lower cabin, though, for almost $900 less. I am really torn between the two cruises, but the money is really eating at me. I guess the deciding factor would be if we are out the insurance money or not. (I'd hate to pay for something and then throw it away, if you know what I mean)

If you purchased the insurance with DCL and cancel outside of 60 days from your arrival, you will NOT lose that money. All of your deposit (and any additional money you might have paid) will be refunded.

Kaa, thanks for letting me know so quickly. I still don't know what to do. There is a "FP" on this board that the poster is in the same predicament that I am in. Seems Carnival lowered their rates in the last few days and I don't think Disney will come down much farther than they already have. (under $2000 for 2 of us in a nav. veranda room) Discissions, discissions.............. ;)

Dave, are you sure about this? I have been told that my insurance was non-refundable in any situation.

For me, it doesn't matter anymore, I think we've decided on Disney. But, for others, this is a big question. Is it better to reserve a cruise and then add the insurance later?

I'm not Dave, but I am positive that you will receive a full refund if you cancel your Disney Cruise Line reservation (including insurance) prior to 60 days before your arrival. Now travel insurance purchased with a WDW package through the Walt Disney Travel Company is non-refundable after you pay your deposit.

You must purchase travel insurance through DCL before you make your final payment on your reservation. Otherwise, insurance can't be added after the cruise is paid in full.

I don't buy the DCL insurance (mainly because I don't fly to Orlando) but I do buy it from my Travel Agent, which is AAA South.

After reading the fine print in the policy, I changed the timing of when I buy it. If I pay for it within 7 days of my original booking, they will provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, rather than only covering new ones.

I'm not sure what the provision is for cancelling the cruise before final payment, I'll have to ask them.

I've been on two Disney cruises and have reservations for third. So far have done all my business directly with DCL. I don't have any actual experience with cancellations, but as I understand it -- prior to 60 days out you get total refund. Insurance doesn't come into it until less than 60 days prior so you get full refund. I've never paid more than $200 deposit prior to 60 days before, so if I cancelled I would get that back.
