How does separating A&E save time?

If a child spends 1 minute with Anna, or 1 minute with Anna and Elsa together...it still takes 1 minute per child in line.

Now if the child had to *choose* which one, well yeah, then it cuts the time in half. But my understanding is they get to visit both (one at a time).

Or is it that the "solo photos" take less time this way? Were the photos "one with A&E, one with A, and one with E" before? If so, they could just limit it to "with both" photos, and cut the time by two-thirds.

What's the point of separating A&E?

With only Anna and Elsa in one room, it decreases the staffing for the non-stop meet and greet by 33%. It also stopped the banter between the two of them that was increasing the guest interaction time beyond Disney standards as well as increasing the wait time for guests.

They don't have to pay for that third "visiting princess." And having two princesses in the room instead of three should move people through quicker.

What is does is now instead of little Jane spending 3-5 minutes with both princesses she now spends 1-2 minutes with Ana and then spends another 1-2 minutes with Elsa. Now while Jane is seeing Elsa, little Billy is already meeting Ana. So now Billy's wait is 2-3 minutes less than it would have been if Jane saw both princesses together. Add that 2-3 minutes less across the whole board and the wait time cuts in half.

If i remember rightly, it was a similar case with Flynn and Rapunzel when they met together and their line was always very long (not as bad as A&E).
Once it went down to just Rapunzel, the lines decreased (in my own experience).
With 2 face characters meeting together, it usually will create longer lines than just 1. So splitting them up should, theoretically help reduce lines, aswell as reducing costs in having just 2 princess' instead of 3.
