How does Priceline work?

We cannot find a low price rental car for our trip in April (I know kind of early, but we are only doing a one way). I am considering trying Priceline. Should I wait to bid til around a week before we need the car? Earlier? When I bid, should I put an amount in that will include all the extra charges? Any recommendations/comments about Priceline? Thanks

We have had the greatest success waiting until inside of 30 days for car rentals. We've gotten full size cars the past 4 years for $11-$12 per day, fees additional. Your credit card/insurance should cover liability/CDW, saving a good amount...don't be bullied into accepting CDW/liability if your card/insurance covers it (Check with your providers).
