How does point transfers work?

I'm looking at taking a trip to DVC in september, but dont have enough points in 2008. I dont want to borrow, so I'll rather transfer... except I dont know how that works. I have a March use year at AKVs and will need 14 points for a september trip. I would like it to be either a stay at AKVs or OKW studio. Do I need to find a person with a specific use year or specific resort? Is transferring points as risky as a straight DVC points rental??? How does the person go about transferring points to my DVC membership? Thanks!

Are you banking 2008 to use them in Sept because Sept 2009 would be in your 2009 UY.


If you're within 7 months of the reservation you want you can use points from any resort to book it so the transfer can be from any resort. Sept has to be in the UY though, or you could get points now that could be banked to use in Sept.

Go to the rent board here at the DIS and find someone with points to transfer in the amount/price that you are looking for. 14 is a small number so you may need to accept more points than that to find someone willing to do a transfer to you.

I think a transfer is much less risky than renting for both parties. All the person needs to transfer to your account is your name and member number.

A transfer is simply done via conference cal lwith both parties to MS. Very easy. FInding teh person to transfer from may be a bit harder.

Thanks.. Oh, I meant my 2009 points. So for a September 2009 trip, since i'm within the 7 month booking timeframe, can I accept points from anyone with any use year / home resort?

Yes, as long as Sept is part of their uy or you can bank them into Sept.
